fictional account of what might have happened if Nicholas had another brother after Misha to accept the throne. I have downloaded the sample to read before I buy because it looks pretty dreadful, but you never know.

Romanov and Imperial Russia Links / Odd website

I hope this isn't a serious website... probably just someone having fun, or a joke. Anyway, I thought you might want to see it. I made me laugh a bit.

Any one else have one? Mine is a card from my parents which is also a calender. Today I got a picture of a little tree in a pot. What did others get?

The Myth and Legends of Survivors / Am I weird?

(Not sure if this is the right place for this, so it can be moved if needs must)
I have just finished reading a beautiful book called 'The House of Special Purpose' by John Boyne (Not the awful one I posted about, this is a different one). It was wonderfully written, but very badly researched, and was the story of Anastasia being saved by a peasant and living in London.
However, when it got to the bit where she left the Ipatiev house with him and was so distressed at witnessing the murder of her family, I was in tears and found myself feeling glad that she never had to suffer the loss and guilt that she survived. Is this horribly wrong of me? Am I seeing this wrong?

I have rented this book from the library and, flicking through, found a picture (no.18) labeled as Xeina, Olga and Nicholas. To me, it doesn't look like Nicholas at all! Has anyone got the book? Does anyone know what I'm on about?
Here's the picture:
Here it is labeled as Xeina, Misha and Olga.

I've just finished 'THE HOUSE OF SPECIAL PURPOSE', which I have talked about in another thread with Sunny. It was very, very well written and engaging and if I didn't know what I did, I'd have been really into it. However, it did have dozens of inaccuracies (As Sunny has pointed out) and one massive new one.
The imperial family were executed in the basement of the Ipatiev house, not in the courtyard outside as the author suggests but I didn't even know that there was a courtyard! and there was one quote at the start of a chapter that I was horrified by:
'I remember this about her: I hated her. I remember I hated her. When I heard they'd slaughtered them all, I felt sorry about Nicholas... and Marie of course and the boy...But her. I thought: I hope she suffered. Yes, I know, it's a terrible thing to say. But you didn't know her like I did.'
Does anyone know whose quote this is, or what Anastasia did to make him/her hate her? Or even if it is a real quote? I know that Anastasia was quite a cruel child, but IMO she wasn't anywhere near cruel enough to deserve the fate she did.
Thanks in advance, GDI

Maria Nicholaievna / Confused about Kaulbach portraits?
« on: September 25, 2011, 02:40:08 PM »
Was searching google and found this:
Was interesting until I saw the captions on the infamous OTMA portraits. Anastasia and Maria? Then, slightly lower down, they show the real Anastasia portrait under what I think is actually Olga.
I think that this has been discussed on the forum before, but I can't find it. Can anyone shed some light on the subject for me?
Thanks, GDI.

Anastasia Nicholaievna / Anastasia sailor suit
« on: September 18, 2011, 09:19:52 AM »
I have Olga, Tatiana and Maria's pictures of them in sailor suits, but not one of Anastasia. Does anyone else have one and the one of Maria leaning on the fence in her sailor suit? Link to others:
Thanks in advance,

Alexandra Feodorovna / Alix and her aunt Beatrice?
« on: September 17, 2011, 02:32:42 PM »
Hi, I am a  new user!
I have read in places that Alix and her sisters were close to their mothers sister, Beatrice. Is there any truth in this? Also, I have seen a picture of them together, does anyone have it? Many thanks,
