Having Fun! / Music that reminds you of the IF
« on: June 09, 2008, 08:41:04 AM »
There is already a thread about songs about the Imperial Family, but I thought I would start a thread about music that reminds you, personally, of the royal family. I did this mainly because there is a great deal of music that reminds me of them (all of which I HIGHLY recommend you hear. They're beautiful works!)

So go ahead and post what music reminds you of them (if you have any) and feel free to comment about your selections, as well as others. No rules in the Having Fun board, hm? ;)

So, here are my selections:

Russian Christmas by Alfred Reed. It was my school band's tradition to play this every year at Christmas. It is a 15-minute piece, very beautiful, very passionate that epitomizes old Russia, as well as Russian Orthodoxy. It's just such a gorgeous piece. Professional orchestral versions should be available to hear--as far as I know, it's pretty popular.

Russian Easter by Nikolai Rismky-Korsakov. This one is much like Russian Christmas, but obviously focuses around Easter. It is also very passionate, very Old Russia and Russian Orthodoxy, and like Russian Christmas, it makes use of the chimes, symbolizing all the bells in the church towers. Rimsky-Korsakov is a brilliant composer, of course. I highly recommend this one, as well! :)

More obscurely:

Now these ones will seem out of the blue versus the other two I post, but I will explain why I chose them after each.

Tania, Enemy at the Gates soundtrack, by James Horner. The movie "Enemy at the Gates" obviously took place in Russia, but it revolved around the Russian side of WWII, not WWI or anything involved with the Imperial Family. What I love most about this certain track is the evident emotion in the music. I recently made a reply to the "Kitchen Boy" thread in the Books segment of the forum, because I had read it again for the fifth time. Well, I read it while listening to this track--only this track. That is now what the music reminds me of. It has a truly Russian sound to it. But while it is supposed to revolve around Russia in WWII, much of it really does epitomize Russia under autocracy. There is a part where the music becomes "grandiose" and elegant, with the church bells ringing in the background. And then, toward the end of the music...Well, I'll leave that for you to hear. It breaks my heart every time I hear it, it's so beautiful! ;) James Horner truly is an amazing composer (in my eyes), which is why my next selection is also by him.

Casper, by James Horner. There are silly parts of this soundtrack which are obviously the way they are because they are from the movie, "Casper", but the ones I am referring to are Tracks 6 (The Lighthouse), Track 8 (Fond Memories), Track 10 (Casper's Lullaby), and Track 12 (One Last Wish). I think these remind me of the Imperial Family because my sister used them in a movie she made of the Romanovs, for a school project. I can't really explain them in words. They are all hauntingly beautiful, and as I said with "Tanya" from "Enemy at the Gates", there is so much emotion in the music, that it really does befit the Royal Family. Listen to them! I think you'll agree! :) (If not, I'll buy you a pint) ;)

Anyway, I have others, but I think this list is good enough for now!

Having Fun! / A Project Regarding the Romanovs (Please Help! :))
« on: August 27, 2007, 07:10:00 PM »
Hello there!

I thought I'd send out a request here for some assistance because it seemed the only appropriate board for the request! I'm a senior in my high school and to graduate, I must write a ten page paper and complete a large project that shows some type of learning experience. I would LOVE to do something regarding the Romanovs, but I am having a hard time finding a good topic to research. Some kind of mental block on my creative mind!  :( However, with the discovery of the two bodies, my passion for the family has been rekindled yet again, and I want to share this with my school community. I think involving the Romanovs would make for an excellent graduation assignment.  :)

I guess I would just like to know if anyone has any ideas on what type of topic I could research? I was thinking perhaps I could look at types of leaders and their influences in their countries, but it doesn't seem to present some type of learning stretch and hands-on experience. PLUS it is not related solely to the Romanovs. Any help would be so appreciated!  :) I know this sounds like a very random plea, but I am desperate to graduate and spread the word about the Romanovs' amazing story! Thank you in advance for any assistance!  :D Of course, in my project, any help I receive will be credited, as there will be a committee judging me!

Having Fun! / Do any of the Romanovs look like someone you know?
« on: April 17, 2006, 09:55:49 PM »
I know there's a post like this about actors and actresses, but I'm talking just people you know. Are there any friends, family, or acquaintances that resemble Romanovs? I know I have a few. Aside from two schoolmates who very, and strangely enough, reflect Aleksei and Marie, I had an uncle who has since passed who very closely resembled Nicholas. It makes you feel very warm inside to think of the idea that 'everyone has a twin' and I am sure posting about it will show you just how inspired and lucky you really are!

The Alexander Palace / Visiting Alexander Palace
« on: December 30, 2005, 06:56:31 PM »
Question, quick one.
I know that Alexander Palace doesn't give tours and such, and that you also need special permission or to be accompanied by a certain someone.
Does anyone know anything about this, or any changes that may have been made to the system? Thanks.

Having Fun! / Another Serious Lookalikes Thing
« on: November 14, 2005, 01:33:26 PM »
I know a lot of you may disagree with me, but I just wanted to have it known- I can't believe how much these people look like them:
Ready?

Okay, first up:
Camilla Rutherford from Vanity Fair looks like
Tatiana

Second, Rowan Witt from The Matrix looks like Alexei

They aren't the best pics, only the ones I could find on the internet. But if you watch the movie, you'll see. The thing is, Miss Rutherford has Tatiana's eyes, just as Witt has Alexei's. Not to mention, at the first instance I saw that boy in the Matrix, like that, I thought of that one picture where OTMAA were all standing together with their heads shaved. This is only what I see, though.

I hope you guys can compare them. If you have any pics that match well, post them here and you can see for yourself...But still, I think it's just better to watch those movies. Um, in the meantime, if anyone cares, I'll try to get better pictures of the two of them.

Tsarevich Alexei Nicholaievich / How Has Alexey Affected YOUR Life?
« on: October 26, 2005, 05:12:35 PM »
Just would like to know. I've done the same topic for Olga, if you'd like to see it under her name. Some people have interesting ideas...I mean emotionally. So...To me, well, I've become a more devoted Christian, generally a better person looking off of his life and trying to follow his examples.
Smart boy too, I'd wager. I've even taken the time to talk to other people and ask them about what they do. I know it's naive of me, but it's something sweet Alexey would do to his neighbors. Of course, then he always made friends. And I think it works wonderfully!

How has Olga affected your life?
I must say, I feel I can relate to her the most, but for my Confirmation, I have chosen her name as my Confirmation name and as my patron saint.
Well, how about you?

Having Fun! / Dreams You Have Had of Them?
« on: October 05, 2005, 08:29:42 AM »
Anyone had dreams of them? It can be anything. I know I had one, really splendid. But I won't mention it unless someone actually wants to hear it.
Till then,
Peace out.  :)
