The Imperial Family / Re: OTMAA's Formal Photos
« on: September 13, 2008, 12:44:23 AM »
Hi again,

Just a little thing I forgot: yes, there has been official photographs taken 2 years in a row, first in 1905 for Alexei's birth, then in 1906, with all the children together in those adorable white dresses. Then again in 1913 and in 1914.

And thinking about this, if some of the pictures were shot in EARLY 1911, then Olga wasn't 16 yet. She would have just turned 15, in fact, so it makes sense, for the pigtail, no?

See you,

You know what? I think there could have been two photoshoots, one in 1910 and the other in 1911. Maybe I'm wrong, but in some pictures I saw, Anastasia effectively seems younger then in others...or maybe it's my imagination.

But I think I may have the solution: remember the necklaces Otma were wearing? Remember their parents gave them 2 new pearls for each birthday, so they'd have a complete necklace by their 16th birthday? All we have to do is to count the pearls. If someone can clear the images enough, of course. Here's what I got now, but as I said, I'm not so sure about the dates:

Anastasia, 1910

Anastasia, 1910 too

Nastya, 1910

Maria, 1911

Maria, again 1911

Then Maria, 1910 (or maybe before)

The pictures I have of Olga and Tatiana probably date from 1911, so I won't post them now. Have you noticed the neck of the gowns? V-necks for the older grand duchesses, round necks for the youngers? (12 and beyond) Maybe it can help more then the hemlines, because we can see that in this photo of Olga and Tatiana in 1905, their dresses looked longer. I guess these were very expensive to sew! MAybe they were made long on purpose to "last for a while". Or maybe they belonged to other kids before Otma?!

Tatiana and Olga, 1905

Over here, it's almost 2am, so...bye! I hope I can help.

Anybody wants photos? As for the quotes, I don't know, but I think I have a few pictures you'll like.

Tatiana, Anastasia, Olga and Maria, 1901

Anastasia, Olga,Tatiana, Maria, 1901 again

Olga and Tatiana, Nastya on top of the pony, and Maria, 1906

Same photoshoot: Alexandra, Nastya, Alexei, Olga, Tatiana and Maria

Nastya and Alexei, 1906

Anastasia, Maria, Alexei and Tatiana, 1906

Olya, Anastasia, Tatiana, Maria, 1906

Olga, Anastasia, Tatiana, 1906

Maria, Alexandra and Anastasia (cute, no?) I'd say between 1904 and 1906

And finally, in 1906 again: Anastasia, Alix, Alexei, Tatiana behind him and Olga

I know, no one posted something over there in a long time, but look what I found! Olga, Anastasia, Tatiana and Maria, around 1906. They're so cute... By the way, Hi again everyone, for I haven't been here for a while myself.

Hi guys!

Yeah, I know, I haven't replied for a long time, but look what I found in my albums...

The five "children", from left to right, Maria, Olga and Alexei, Tatiana and Ananstasia, around 1913 I think.

A complete version of the one I already posted up there. Still 1904, and Maria, Tatiana, Anastasia, Olga and Alexei clockwise from top left.

A very special one I don't remember where I found. I think they're in the mauve room, in Alexander Palace. From left to right: Anastasia and Alexandra, Alexei sitting on the floor, Tatiana behind him and Olga. Cute, isn't it?

Lanie, I'm really sorry if I ever uploaded on my albums a photo that's yours. I've got so much of them that I don't remember where they all come from. I hope you won't mind me...

Yeah, they're from the ale collection. Somebody knows if it really was 1908?
I think it's this summer, but I could be wrong.

Grandduchess_42, here are some more photos that go with the one you post. (1900) I agree, Olga's hair look a lot paller then usually. It must have been rather fair when she was small, it's often like that with kids: hair darken as they grow.

Of course, Sarushka. 1904. My mistake, sorry. Must have been work...want some more photos, somebody? Well, ready or not, here they are!

Aboard the Polar Star, the imperial yacht the family used to own before the Standart. 1904, I'd say.

In Finland, around 1907: Masha, Nastia, Alexei, Olya and Tanya. Aren't they beautiful?

Aboard the Standart, 1908, I think: Maria, Olga, Tatiana and Anastasia

1909, Peterhof. Picking flowers with Nastia

About 1908, Peterhof again. With Maria and their dolls... :)

Peterhof, 1903. Tatiana and Olga playing with poor Maria.

1901, for Nastia's christening, with Tatiana and Maria.

1904, for Alexei's christening: Maria and Tatiana, Olga in front and Nastia at the far right.

Finally, in 1906, Olga, Alexei, Tatiana, Maria and Anastasia. Don't ask me who colored this pic, I don't know!

See ya later, guys.

Yeah...Olga was such a darling! Some more photos, maybe...

Around 1906, Alexander Palace

With Tatiana, 1906 too. (At left is Tatiana, huh, don't mix them!)

Maria, Olga, Tatiana and Anastasia, 1904. Formal picture taken around their brother's birth

1899, with baby Maria and their mother

If there are pics that would ever need to be cleaned, I think this one would rank very high in the list...

Here is the same pic in better quality. There are lots more of Olga and Tatiana alone from this session, but of the sisters together, I think it's the only one from the 1904 photoshooting.

Tatiana and Olga

That's what I have now, folks! Aren't they lovely?!

Tatiana Nicholaievna / Re: 1910 photo with dolls?

Yeah...I often thought about that. It must be one of the first photos I ever saw of this family, so I had time...

I've always figured that the fifth doll would be the one Nastia is holding in her right hand, whose face is partly hidden and who wears a black coat. The other four look a lot alike in size, hair and dressing.

Or maybe the Kaiser gave Anastasia 2 smaller dolls instead of a larger one, like Olga's? Who knows, maybe the dolls are really alive, and would have thousands of things to say...

...and thanks for the whole picture, I really appreciate it.

Hi Lanie!

I know it's hard, but try not to worry too much; they know what they're doing! At least, it'll be over, you won't be in pain anymore.

I'll be thinking of you, and praying, of course! :)

I wish you a light-speed recovery, and good times with school (well, if the last one is possible)

EmmyLee, thanks for the photos you posted. I already knew them, and I like them a lot. The one you placed on the right actually figures in Prince Michael of Greece family's album. He says, if I remember well, that it's this kind of pictures that makes all the charm of family snapshots.

Would somebody know which of NATOTM shot it? Alexei and Nastya are really funny here.  :)

Oh. Wow. I can't say I know the Rolling Stones really well, but this is weird, no? Somebody refering to the Romanov family in one of their songs years after 1918.

It reminds me of something I read on another website not so long ago. I mean, if something happened a century ago, do we need to old a grudge against the perpetrators for so long? Of course, no one shall forget what happened, because we don't want this to happen again, but...

Sigh. It seems that the killing of innocent people has always happened. Not because we're especially bad. Because we're human, and therefore ables of great things, in the good or bad ways. It's the fact that some people are mean that makes me appreciate the kindness of others.

Here is the sentence I read: I will love the light for it shows me the way, yet I will endure the darkness for it shows me the stars. It resumes very well what I'm trying to say.

Sorry if this sounds useless to some of you. Sometimes, I just go philosophing like that for hours, like, in the bus... :)
