The Tudors / Re: What started your love of Tudor history?
« on: March 21, 2009, 11:56:01 AM »
When I was growing up in the 1960's I found a book on my Mom's bookshelf called "The Young Elizabeth" and reading it got me curious about the Tudors which started it all.

I am reading this book right now. So far, it is interesting except for the fairly glaring error about Minny and Sasha's mothers being sisters. I'm not impressed with her research skills and fact checking.   I was more interested in reading it when i found that the author had been given access to the Royal archives.

Indeed...Although Ducky still looked uptight with Elisabeth...no wonder she prefers Ernie.  :(

Was she uptight or sad because of the state of her marriage?

Since I now have a dvd from another region to use, I also tried using an unlock code that I found on the web on my regular DVD player & it really worked. I was able to change it to region 0 and play a region 2 on my region 1 player if that makes sense.  Has anyone else had any luck trying this?  I have another dvd player that I am going to experiment with.

This has been discussed a few times here, about what equipment to use to play dvds from other regions.  There is a free download called VLC Media player that can play dvds of all regions on your computer.  I recently found it by a Google search and ordered a dvd from the UK (I am in the US) and I am watching it right now on my computer. BTW, it is Wallis & Edward, the Joely Richardson/Stephen Campbell Moore movie. ;D

I have seen it.  The Infamous Murders series is interesting but the individual stories are very brief overviews of the murders, not in depth at all.  BTW, I like to call The History Channel the World War II channel & I have also heard it called All Hitler, All the Time.

It was nothing new, but I did really enjoy it and some of the pictures and video were new to me.  It was really nice seeing what Greg and Penny look like.

The Windsors / Re: George and Marina, Duke and Duchess of Kent
« on: June 25, 2006, 06:59:36 PM »
The publisher was Cass Canfield and his son was Michael Canfield.  Michael was briefly married to Jackie Kennedy's younger sister Lee Bouvier.  it is said that the Duke of Windsor believed that Michael was the Duke of Kent's son but it has never been confirmed.

Arturo, thanks for getting the book out to me so quickly and for the autograph.  I have just barely started reading it, but I am really enjoying it so far.

I would highly recommend it just based on the one chapter I have read so far.
