Hi, thanks for this thread. You write that Kunhata gave Premysl five children. I have Kunhata, Agnes and Václav. Do you have details of the other two children (names, dates)?

The Tudors / Re: Edward II's daughter Eleanor
« on: October 02, 2007, 04:09:45 AM »
Eleanor of Woodstock Born in Woodstock, Oxfordshire on 18 June 1318 to Edward II of England and Isabella of France and was named after her paternal Grandmother Eleanor of Castile, £333 was given for her churching by father. In 1324 she was taken into care by her cousin Eleanor de Clare then sent to the care of Ralph de Mothermer and Isabella de Valence with her younger sister Joan of the Tower at Pleshey. In 1325, there were negotiations between England and Castile for Eleanor to be betrothed to Alphonso V of Castile, but this fell through due to the dowry.

Eleanor was re-united with her Mother and in 1330 negotiations were made by her Mother that she and her Brother John of Eltham, Earl of Cornwall to marry a son and daughter of Philip VI of France, however they fell through also.

In May 1332 Eleanor married the reigning Count of Guelders, Reinoud II "the black" (English: Reginald), of the House of Wassenberg (born c. 1287), a marriage arranged by her mother's cousin Jeanne of Valois. The Groom, being quite dark of colour and character, was a widower with four daughters. He was known for having imprisoned his father for over six years.

As she sailed from Sandwich, her wedding trousseau included a wedding gown of Spanish cloth, caps, gloves, shoes, a bed, rare spices and loaves of sugar. She was well received in Guelders and bore her husband two sons Reinoud III "the fat" (1334-1371) and Edward of Guelders (1336-1371. However, due to her unhappy childhood, she grew nervous and eager to please her husband, who tired of her and sent her from court (1338) by pretending she had leprosy. Her husband then tried to annul the marriage.

Eleanor turned up in Court in Nijmegen though to contest the annulment, and proceeded to strip down, proving she was no leper, and thus forcing her husband to take her back. He died from a fall from his horse on 12 October 1343.

On 22 April 1355, twelve years after she became a widow, Eleanor died in poverty in a Cisterian convent aged 36, she helped rule with her son Reginald who quarrelled with her for trying to make peace with her younger son and confiscated all her lands. She was too proud to ask her Brother Edward III of England for help and was buried in Deventer Abbey. Her tomb stone had the simple inscription ELEANOR on it, however in England on the south side of Queen Philippa of Hainault's tomb in Westminster Abbey there is an image of her and her husband.

It was king José's wish on his deathbed (he died 24 Feb 1777) that Maria Francisca Benedita would marry Jose. They married on 21 Feb 1777. Since Jose (1761-1788) was also the son of King Jose's brother Pedro III, once could consider Maria Francisca Benedita as a cousin of Jose (besides being his aunt on his mothers side). That was the reason that the Pope gave permission for this marriage.

Hey Yseult,
Besides the 9 children you mentioned, i found three other children: Diniz, Joana and Leonor, even with days of birth! One of the 3 bastard children of Joao I was already dead when he married Filippa.
Perhaps that José can tell us more after he had read the book of Stillwell.

The Danish Royal Family / Kirsten Munck
« on: August 25, 2007, 03:48:36 AM »
Kirsten Munk (* 6. Juli 1598; † 19. April 1658 in Boller), daughter of Ludwig Munk and Ellen Marsvin.
In 1615 she became 'Gräfin von Schleswig-Holstein' and the second wife of the Danish king Christian IV. The King divorced her in 1629 after the birth of her last child. The King hadn't slept with her for over a year and this child was probably the child of her lover, Otto Ludwig Rheingraf zu Salm. She had became his lover in about 1626. In 1629 Christian IV took a new mistress: Vibeke Kruse. Vibeke was presented to the King by his former mother-in-law Ellen Marsvin. Ellen wanted to keep her influence over the king.
Most sources say she had 12 children with the Christian IV. I can only find 10. Who knows the other two children wo were probably stillborn?

Marianne Victoria of Bourbon (March 31, 1718 – January 15, 1781) (in Portuguese Mariana Vitória, in Spanish Mariana Victoria) was the eldest daughter of Philip V of Spain and Elizabeth Farnese. She was Queen Consort of Portugal and Algarves.

As a child, she was engaged to Louis XV of France, but went back to Spain to continue her education. The engagement was later broken off and she was instead engaged to the future Joseph I of Portugal. She married Joseph on January 19, 1729. When her husband was declared incapable of ruling in 1774, she was proclaimed Regent, and acted as the Regent for Portugal in all matters until Joseph's death on February 24, 1777. Upon her husband's death, their eldest daughter Maria became the Queen Regnant as Maria I of Portugal. (see: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marianne_Victoria_of_Borb%C3%B3n)

She had the following children:
1. Dona Maria Francisca Isabel Rita Gertrudes Joanna Reinha de Portugal Princeza de Beira (17.12.1734, Lisboa-20.3.1816, Rio de Janeiro)
2. Dona Maria Ana Francisca Dorotea Josefa Antonia Gertrudes Rita Joana Efigenia de Braganca Infanta de Portugal (7.10.1736, Lisboa-16.5.1813/26.5.1818, Rio de Janeiro)
