A friend has recently published a book "A Smolny Album" (in Russian and English), which is a reproduction of, and historical information about, an album presented to her grandmother as an award for academic excellence upon her graduation from Smolny in 1907. There are apparently only 3 known albums existing today. The author is Nancy Kovaleff Baker, and the book is available on Amazon and elsewhere: ISBN 978-1-61811-892-9 (paperback) and ISBN978-1-61811-893-6 (electronic)

Joanna and Sanochka, you are so kind with your comments about my photos. I particularly enjoyed taking the last one, of the old ladies raptly enjoying a 21st century film in a 18th-19th century palace room!
I took some other pics of the musical instruments on display, but I doubt the Imperial family played most of them as they are quite exotic.

Here are some photos I took of the Sheremetev Palace in 2007 -- hopefully, more rooms are now restored. Several rooms have very interesting exhibits of musical instruments, and in the back of the Palace is the wonderful museum apartment of Anna Akhmatova.
