The Imperial Family / Confusion on calendars.
« on: September 21, 2020, 03:45:17 AM »
Hi there.

I am at the moment a bit confused on calendar they used. To boil things down:
Was the difference 12 or 13 days to our modern?
When I look at the familys birthdays for example, on different places,
Some are 12 days behind our calendar and some are 13 days.
Did something happen during the time from, say 1890 to 1917?
Was the differenc at one time 12, and at another time 13 days?
Their wikipages for example gives Anastasia and Alexei a birtday that is 12
days behind, the other children 13 days.

Kind regards, Pontus

Each time I watch "Brideshead Revisited" (which is rather often), the young Cordelia (Phoebe Nicholls) always reminds me of Anastasia as I imagine her.

Hi Laura

AS far as I know, "Nicholas & Alexandra" is the only one that depicts a big part of the story of the last Emperor and his family.
There are though other movies. Of course I do not know if you might have seen them, but I would like to mention
"An Imperial Family" (Russian) and "Assassin of the Tsar" (Russian). Both can actually be found on Youtube.
First one is in russian but with english text. This texting is though sometimes VERY fast.
The second movie I mentioned is in english. They are very different from each other, but both are rather good I would say.
In my oppinion both are better than "Nicholas & Alexandra". They do though both depict a much shorter timeperiod.
Regarding casting I would say that "An Imperial Family" is the best one this far, this goes also for interiors and surroundings used.

Kind regards

Seen it now.
No further questions.
No memory of it.
I guess I might not have seen it after all..?
Lets hope so.

As so much else that has been done for the screen, this one seems to draw
on everything "bad" you can possibly dig up. I cant uinderstand why this continues??
Based on rumours rather than facts. Astonishing.

Hi friends

Do we know if also the childrens rooms on the upper floor ist to be restored?
I fear they are not...

Kind regards

In this article from Royal Russia, it says that they will be used for temporary exhibits. Hopefully, the rooms will at least be the same size, etc, as the original rooms, but it doesn't sound like they will look as they did when the Imperial Family lived there. :(

https://royalrussia.news/2019/04/17/alexander-palace-may-not-open-this-year/?fbclid=IwAR1piGK7PpBIXNRNQCQa_pGdCWxM0zDwfILbsJ2S_p4F6FvemPGohwyevTE

That article was the reason I asked here :)
Thanks anyway of course!

Cheers

Having Fun! / Re: The Eastern Front 1914-1917 wargame
« on: December 12, 2018, 02:37:55 PM »
Hi

I do play boardgames :)
This is a nice one from GMT, the entire eastern front: "Illusions of Glory".
This one (also from GMT): "Reds!" is the Russian civil war 1918 - 1921.
The murder of Nicholas II and family is in the game, and might NOT happend actually.
The outcome of this does ofc have an influence on the game...
"Europe in Turmoil" is a new game (from Compass Games)  that is more a political game,
rather than a war game. The theme is the political struggle in Euriope in the years
before the war (Monarchsts, Liberals, Socialists etc. struggling for control).

Cheers!

Thank you very much Joanna :)

The video might be a bit long, but I wanted to do it mainly for people who have never been there, and for
people who might never get the opportunity to get there. Hence it also shows some of the surroundings,
and also, I have tried to show how the different places are situated geographically. ie: how close they are
to each other, and that TS is very small.
The two churches are both wonderful, though rather different to each other in most ways.
I did ofc light a candle also in the Feodorovsky Sobor :)
Have you been there many times? Maybe you live in Russia?
I will go back for sure, when the AP and the Feodorovsky Gorodok is finished and open again.

Kind regards, P.v.H

Please mind my english, it is not my native.

Thank you very much!
Darn I never thought about grabbing a few acorns :( That would have been a wonderful idea.
I will go there again for sure though. I absolutely must see both the AP and the Feodorovsky Gorodok
when they are finished renovating.
I must say I felt both sad and happy during my short stay... Very moving to be there.
Next time I will stay only in TS. There is very much to see. I might go in the winter and build a snow tower in the park ;)

Kind regards PvH
