Olga on her 16th birthday in 1911

Tatiana in 1913

Maria in 1915

Anastasia in 1917

Was she already queen when it was painted? She looks so young

The portrait you are talking about is dated around 1837, so it was the same year she became the Queen. It's painted by Robert Lane.

This is the full picture, and it's Queen Victoria presenting Arthur to the Duke of Wellington, who was one of Arthur's godparents.

I love this one, it seems like she's tried to match them.

For anyone living in Australia (Sydney) you might not have heard that at the Powerhouse Museum, starting September 29th, there will be an exhibition on Princess Diana. It looks really good - I can't wait till the 29th!!

..All Victorias grandaughters received pearls each year to add to their necklaces..

Very sentimental!  :)

Mary R.

Same with Nicholas II's daughters, each recieved two pearls until their sixteenth birthday to make a necklace.

Quite strange! But my copy is from 1996, not 1994 and on the same in the same chapter and pages, Greg King writes:
"Tsarevich Nicholas strolled among the crowd that afternoon . . . That night he atttended a splendid ball, waltzing . . . Allix had purposley remained in Germany to avoid the tsarevich, fearing that he would propose to her, but the queen was still frantic with worry" and then it goes on to say why Queen Victoria did not want Alix to marry Nicholas.
So this seems that it is no body's fault but the book must have been revised!

??? Sorry Helen, I don't understand. Greg King never wrote that in "The Last Empress", in fact, it was the complete opposite. I got my information from his book, in which he writes exactly the same thing as me.

Princess Margaret and Princess Diana had a good relationship until the Panarama interview because she felt that Diana had insulted and betrayed the Queen and that was unforgivable to her. There is a rumor that Margaret ordered all magazines, books and personal photographs that showed Diana to be thrown out and when it was suggested that a statue of Diana be put outside Kensington Palace she replied "I will not have that woman outside my window. The answer is no."

royalboy202, Alix didn't go to the wedding on purpose because she heard Nicholas was going and was afraid that he would propose. She remained in Germany, while around 2000 other guests went. I'm not sure whether Ella went though, I can't remember!

I completley agree, Grace! I was shocked by William's public speaking skills as well. I am sure he could have made something up on the stage, or at least memorised the speech, instead of relying on a card. I was also suprised that Harry did this aswell. This was a concert going to be shown all over the world, and even if people didn't watch the concert I know that the speech's would have been shown on the news, as it was on our news. Many people would have been slightly taken aback when they saw this.
Aside from that, I thought the concert was brilliant and I loved seeing William dance! He suddenly seemed so human to me, same with Harry. I think that the concert did a lot for not only Diana's memory, but for the way that the prince's will be seen now, and in many years to come.
I loved the English Ballet the best! I thought it was spectacular, I am very glad they agreed to perform. I didn't like the fact that in Australia (I'm not sure what happened in other countries coverage) we only got to see some of the concert, about 3 hours of it. How long did it actually go for?
I look forward to watching my tape of it many times!  :D

Here are the official photo's without the marks, thanks to the Crown Prince and Princess' official website.
