These pictures are great....I was at the Alexander Palace in Jan this year. Although it was winter it looked and felt depressing. Thank you for showing these great pictures....it really shows how beautiful the palace looks.  I cannot wait to get there again...

Hey Guys,

I was very lucky to find a copy of Romanov Diary on line for $30.00, and Nicholas' Jewell Album at a local second hand bookstore for around $30.00.
I was incredibly lucky. the most I have paid for a book was for teh Costume Ball at teh Winter Palace.  This is a great obsession to have, but it can get pricey, and take up the spare room ;D

I am half way through this book, and I too am learning bits and pieces that I did not previously
know. A great interesting read, and I cannot wait for the second volume ;D

Q&A and Interviews / Re: Travel to Russia  - Exeter International
« on: January 28, 2010, 10:41:01 PM »
hey Holly,

I have just got back from a 3 week trip to Russia. The airport customs officers are not the most chatty of poeple, but were quick in stamping the passports and visa's. The police on the street were most helpful;, espceially when asked silly questions by myself when I got lost. You have nothing to worry about. i caught the train from Moscow to St petersburg and all staff were helpful at all points.
Enjoy your trip........I am now planning my summer version of my trip. ;D

The Hohenzollern / Re: End of the Monarchies

Interesting to read Dimitri and John of Ilias statements.
I would hope that our first President will be none other than Paul Keating himself. Then at last we can hold our head high again since 1996. What a great moment for Australia, a president, and Paul Keating back doing what he does best. :D

A republic may not happen this term, but it cannot be to far away.

hey Guys,
Did not want to buy into the succession debate, her status or not, ;D thier are plenty of forums for that, I was just saying that it was great to see the Imperial standard, and hear God Save the Tsar..........you do not get that everyday here in Sydney.

Hello Belochka,

I do not know how publicized her HIH's visit was, but the Australian government certainly treated it with all the dignity of a royal visit with lunches at Sydney town hall with the Lord mayor, staying at Government House in canberra and melbourne. I think the Russian community was also aware. Either way it was a good experience to hear God Save the Tsar being played, and toasting the Romanovs. We do not see alot of that here in Australia, so I enjoyed the experience. (Just made me even more anxious to head to Petersburg this Christmas :)

This may be of interest to other forum members in Sydney. The Australian Monarchist League is having a lunch for the Grandduchess Maria in Sydney on the 20th of September.

If anyone is in Sydney, Berkoleuwe's is a great place to get out of print, and very hard to get books. I have been able to get quite a few hard to get books from there. They also cover other Royalty's and European History.
