The Princess of Pless says in her book  What I left Unsaid   that in Germany "women were  absolute nonentities,to be seen, but never heard".

I think MA was kept away from the realities of life outside palaces and courts...deliberately  allienated from "her "people....I do not know if for reasons of court etiquette  or political reasons  ..like the more oblivious to the poverty and misery   and the needs of the people better for the "oposition"...she was so ignorant of the surroundings outside the glittering court........AF knew  of the poverty misery and all but instead of working for reforms  together with the emperor...    she left evrything in the hands of God...and became more oblivious through  religion...we all know how troubled she was about Alexei   but there were millions of people to be helped..and nothing  or no one  helped the millions of workers living in conditions  worst than animals...somehow reminds me of the mother of a presidente  recently telling about the Katrina refugees...camped in a stadium...."they have a hard life so this is not as bad for the as it seems" or something like that....a lot of religion and  very little compasion...

I'm reading a book about Prince Karl Max LICHNOWSKY  the Kaiser's Embassador  in London..in it the author mentions Prince Hans Heinrich XV  von PLESS  and Pincess DAISY...DAISY wrote a letter to Prince LICHNOWSKY seeking preferment for her husband and was peeved when her husband did not receive an appointment as ambassador.Pince LICHNOWSKY was sometimes a guest at FURSTENSTEIN the castle was 50 miles east of KULCHENA where  the Prince had his own state...he called HANS and DAISY von PLESS '"Fair and fairy princess" ...after a visit of the KAISER and  his entouirage  to Furstenstein the PRINCE OF PLESS   reputedly said : "One more visit from the KAISER and I'll be bankrupt..in her diary of 1916 Prncess Daisy  noted that -"Prince LICHNOWSKY  was frightfully depressed, feeling that the KAISER and others blamed him for the WWl'   Anyone with more about this?

Thanks...I will take a look ..... a good historian HAS to deal with all  the possibilities...when facts are not registered..and just think in the Balkans War in the 1990s  ...for instance .so that possibility will not appear so far fetched...thank you again

I think  people are too romantic ...I do not believe that life for the Grand duchesses  was easy..in Tobolsk or Ekaterimburg   nothing is said about the fear constant fear of sexual attacks.. rapes   and indignities. What was there to protect those young ladies from all this... plus  they were "trophies" for those  lawless  brutes....in those lawless times .
