Thanks Tatia! How strange that she is just known as Christina . . . are Queen Beatrix's sisters well known in the Netherlands, does anyone know? Do they have high profiles and/or appear in the media often?

Of course they are well known.
Princess Margriet and mr. Pieter are the ones who appear most in public, to accompany the queen, or as 'royal delegation', like on the commemoration of WWII last may, in Apeldoorn, where a parade was held.

I've heard the van Vollenhoven sons referred to as "Prince" and I've seen their surname listed as "Lippe-Biesterfeld-van Vollenhoven", or something like that.

Do they have a princely title or not? (Just wondering)

The four sons of Margriet and Pieter are called Princes, even though their father isn't a prince. The children of these four princes however don't inherit the title prince or princess.

The last name of the children of prince Maurits and princess Marilène is van Lippe-Biesterfeld van Vollenhoven, to carry on the last name of prince Bernhard sr. (van Lippe-Biesterfeld), but the children of Prince Bernhard jr. and princess Annette have the last name van Vollenhoven, and I guess the future children of Pieter-Christiaan and Floris will also just be called Van Vollenhoven.

Thanks for the info Tatia! Do these people get an allowance form the Dutch government? Does Princess Margriet? Do Irene or Maria Christina?

I believe the only ones who get an allowance are Queen Beatrix, the Crown Prince and Princess Máxima.

BTW Maria Christina (in the early years known as Marijke) is called Christina, not Maria Christina :)

Welcome to the forum, Tatia!

Thank you! :)

I was just looking up some things about Margriet & Pieter's children, here it is:

Prince Maurits works as a business manager at Philips.
He married princess Marilène (b. 1970) in 1998. They live in Amsterdam with their children Anna (b. 2001), Lucas (b. 2002) and Felicia (b. 2005).

Prince Bernhard jr. is a joint owner of an internet company and is married to princess Annette (b. 1972) (married in 2000). They have 2 children: Isabella (b. 2002) and Samuel (b. 2004) and live near Maurits and Marilène, in Amsterdam.

Prince Pieter-Christiaan works as a major (I believe that's the right word :-/) of the Royal militairy police
He will marry his girlfriend Anita van Eijk on the 25th (civil wedding) and 27th (church) of August, this year.

Prince Floris works at the district court of Amsterdam.
He will marry his girlfriend Aimée Söhngen next October.

I imagine both Irene and her youngest sister (or their descendants) are excluded from the line of succession since they're Catholic, perhaps? Are the Volenhoven plainly commoners or do they have any Dutch title?

The family of Pieter van Vollenhoven are just 'normal' people, they don't have a title and Pieter also wasn't given a title (like 'prince' or so) after his marriage to princess Margriet, he is called mr. (meester ('master')) Pieter though, but I don't if that is a noble title
