I did some more research and it looks like the Cincinnati Post was wrong.  (Whew!  It gave me a scare there for a minute).

Here is a list of where the exhibition will be with dates and places (I wonder what the catalog will be like that they mention):

Here is the site for New Jersey (It has some nice pictures):

For those of you who will be seeing it in Cincinnati, Ohio:

I have enjoyed reading your message and thanks for posting.  I was wondering, since your are from Sweden if you had any information regarding the following.

Do you know what was Lennart's father like?  I know he married Maria Pavlovna but I don't know much about him as a person.  I thought I read someplace (I don't remember where) that he was a difficult person and that's why he had to go all the way to Russia to find a wife.

Also, do you know what happened to him after he divorced and what kind of relationship did he had with his son.

Any help you can give will be much appreciated.

The Alexander Palace / What's in this Area

On the attached floor plan, what is in area 57 and all of the little rooms surrounding it?  Was this the main entrance to the palace?  What do these rooms look like?  What are the staircases (62) like and who used them?  Do you have any pictures of this area?

The Alexander Palace / Basement/Attic
« on: April 27, 2004, 01:27:21 PM »
Does the Alexander Palace have a basement/cellar?  If so, what was originally down there and what is it like now?

Also, does the palace have some sort of an attic?

Meriel Buchanan's books are some of my favorite books.  I highly recommend them. :D

Personally, I thought her books were really good because Meriel was sort of an outsider, as the daughter of an ambassador, looking in at the "royal world" telling you about the various royals and their courts.

My favorite book was "Ambassador's Daughter" because instead of being just portraits of the various royals like some of her other books, it is the story of her life.  I thought the most exciting part was when her father was ambassador in Russia at the time of the revolution.

I was able to visit the inside because there was a Russian folk dancing show held there (I highly recommend seeing it).  In fact, the only reason we saw the show was to get into the palace.  Before it started, we were able to wander around some of the rooms.  Overall, I thought the palace was beautiful and elegant like Ella herself.  I highly recommend seeing it. ;)

I really liked hearing the sound of the roaring rapids when I was there.  I thought it was very well kept up and interesting. :D

I wonder how much notice his father and the rest of the Romanov family took of him.  It is interesting that he was married at Ilinskoye.

Olga Nicholaievna / Re: Did Olga have Depression?

I remember reading somewhere that Olga had some sort of a nerous breakdown during the time she was working at the hospital.  I always wondered how this was known about.  What is mentioned in letters, diaries, stories from servants?

Also, I always wondered what type of behavior she had during it.  Was she unable to get out of bed, were there strong emotional displays, did she lose her temper while working at the hospital, etc.?

I was quite surprised to read that Alexandra was so argumentative while in captivity.  From the letters she wrote, I had always had the impression that she was a weak, sickly person very resigned to her fate.

Was anyone else surprised by this?

Wouldn't it have been awfully uncomfortable to wear a tight corset with a camisole underneath with stones and jewelery in it?  Did the girls wear these all day and night?

What is Boris going to do with it once he is finished?  Is it going to be open for tours?
