Servants, Friends and Retainers / Anna Vyrubova's Family
« on: April 14, 2004, 10:48:35 PM »
Does any one know anything about Anna Vyrubova's family?  Were they able to leave Russia after the revolution?  Are her childhood homes still standing, etc.?

Joanna,

I think it is going to be there until May, which is good because I don't want to drive there in the winter time.  I plan to make a vacation out of it because Cincinnati seems to have a lot to do and see.  I'm so glad its coming to the Midwest and I don't have to travel to New Mexico. :)

Alexandra Feodorovna / Re: Alexandra - Slandered and Hated
« on: April 14, 2004, 12:15:41 PM »
I've always thought that the Russian monarchy's troubles started with the assassination of Alexander II, which in turn made Alexander III rule they way he did which in turn affected Nicholas II.

Does anyone else think this or am I wrong?  I've always wanted to know more about Alexander III.  I can't imagine having to see your father dying after an assassination attempt and then knowing that you're  the next emperor.

I see the exhibition is going to Cincinnati, Ohio and Newark, New Jersey.  Is anyone planning to go to those?   I'm hoping to go to the one in Cincinnati.

Jorgesaenz,

I'd like to hear more about the book.  Could you tell us more?  Does it give a lot of information about his family, etc.?  Does it contain a lot of new information that many of us haven't heard before?

I've always wondered how he and his brother Constantine got along. Does it give any details on this?

I apologize for asking so many questions, but I don't know whether to order the book or not.  Thanks in advance for any help you can give.

Thomas,

Could you tell us more about her memoirs?  What kinds of pictures does the book have?  Did you find the book interesting?  Does she give a lot of unknown facts about the Romanovs, etc.?

Servants, Friends and Retainers / Madeleine Zanotti
« on: April 13, 2004, 02:58:00 PM »
Does anyone know if there are any pictures of Madeleine Zanotti?

Also, why do we know so much about what happened to many of the other servants, but not much about her?

Where was she during the captivity in the Alexander Palace, Tobolsk and Ekaterinburg?

Does anyone have any interesting information on Grand Duke Vladimir's family?  Does anyone know if they left any diaries, personal photo albums, letters, etc. behind?

Does anyone know if Grand Duke Boris' house at Tsarkoye Selo is still standing?  What type of house is it?  What is the layout?  Are there any photos of it?

Also, what happened to Boris, Andrei and Helen after the revolution?

With regard to Kyrill, does anyone know what he did that was so horrible that his wife, Ducky, couldn't forgive him?

Greg and Penny,

I loved your book!  Such thorough research.

With regard to Grand Duchess Maria's getting "too friendly" with the guards, how much did the rest of he family turn away from her for this?  I was surprised to find that she didn't have any jewels on her after the execution.  Do you think there was a lot of anger towards her from Alexandra and Olga or merely distrust?
