My smileys don't work and neither does my avatar picture.  I just have a red x.  I can see some avatars of others but not everyones.

The Windsors / Re: THE QUEEN - new DIANA film starring Dame Helen Mirren
« on: October 12, 2006, 03:16:23 AM »
I would love to see this.  I just checked and it's not playing anywhere in the Kansas City area.  I guess I will have to wait until it comes out on DVD.

I was most like Olga.  I was hoping for Tatiana.

The Imperial Family / Re: Pronounciation
« on: June 06, 2005, 03:51:22 PM »
I've pronounced it wrong for nearly as many years, Elizabeth.  So don't feel bad.

Thank goodness I got Rasputin correct.   8)

Helena was very beautiful.  I wonder if there are any pics of her children or the whole family pre-revolution?

Having Fun! / Re: Children named after the Romanovs

One of my best friends is named Anastasia.  She goes by Stacy.  At one point she wanted to be called Asia.

The only IF names I really like are Tatiana and Alexander.

My daughter's grey tabby cat is named Duchess for the Grand Duchess'.   ;)

If I ever got another male cat (which I doubt, since I lost my 17-year-old baby Jester on our birthday last September :'()  I would name him Tsar.

Jane, me too...who knew. I think it was $29.95.
A gem of a book, with the exception of the "Grand Prince", and "Grand Princess" issue...but we have already visited that subject on another thread  ;)

I found it so difficult to read because of this.  The book was excellent.  Grand Prince and Grand Princess made me crazy though.   >:(

The Imperial Family / Re: OTMA - smoking and make up ?

This was discussed in another thread.  I can't locate it at this moment.

There is also a picture of Anastasia with a cigarette in her hand.  Don't recall which book it was from though.   :o

grandduchessella, thought the exhibit was beautifully done, and boy do I understand about your husband having "no choice"  ;) The spontaneous monologs on
the IF, and related matters, are humored in this house...but to both my son's credit, always with kindness...Can just hear them thinking..."there she goes again".
Seeing the wallpaper from the murder room stopped me in my tracks.....

I saw the exhibit in Topeka.  My husband stopped listening to my Romanov monologs years ago.  My daughter loves them.  Therefore, they are frequent.  The most fascinating part of the exhibit for me was the Faberge' Egg.  That really got to me.  After years of reading about them to finally see one was incredible

The Imperial Family / Re: Diaries of NAOTMAA

"The Last Tsar" discusses the guard or commissar reading Nicholas' diary while in Ekaterinburg.  Do we know how accurate this is?  Radzinsky treated it more or less as a game.  Forgive me if this isn't correct.  It has been a long time since I read the book.  I'm too lazy to go downstairs and get the book out.     ;)

Thank you for the opinions.  I've decided to purchase them.  After I have read them, I will be back with my reviews.   ;)

The Yussupovs / Re: Your personal opinion on Felix Yusupov
« on: March 29, 2005, 05:53:37 AM »
Felix is rather boorish.  I have a problem with his role in the murder of Rasputin.  I have read parts of "Lost Slendor".  He is quite the braggart.  I find that hard to deal with.  I have never cared for Felix.

Has anyone read "Once a Grand Duke" or "Always a Grand Duke" by Sandro?

I have a chance to buy these books at a fairly reasonable price.  Are they worth it.

Sandro is one of my favorites.  I have wanted to read these two books for quite some time.

Dmitri was involved in Rasputin's murder.  Nicholas as punishment sent him to the Persian front.  This ultimately saved his life.

With British help he escaped via Teheran and Bombay to London.
