The Final Chapter / asylum for the imperial family
« on: September 17, 2006, 12:36:49 PM »
I am curious as to why France did not offer the imperial family assylum after England backed down from their offer.  In his second letter to the Russian provisional government, King George suggested that maybe they could go to France since he could not help them.  Why was this never followed up on?  Or was it followed up on with France also refusing  to extend their hand?  Since Russia and France always had such a close working relationship and political ties, i find this puzzling.

It is a great book, but any time you are translating, and/or preparing documents for a book errors occur

unless you are nonenglish speaking, i don't think that translating is an issue here.  nearly all of their correspondence was in english.

the romanov's had large eyes and full lips.  tatiana has smaller eyes and thin lips.  her smile looks just like uncle ernst's.  now we all know where tatiana got her "exotic" looks.

this happens in families sometimes.  i look exactly like one of my dad's sisters.  when people see us together, they think we are sisters instead of aunt and niece.  if someone on that side of the family sees me by myself, they sometimes think i am her.  i look more like her than her own daughter does!  uncanny.......

i agree.   i always have said that anastasia and tatiana look like the hessian side of the family and olga and maria look like the romanov side of the family.  while anastasia and tatiana share the same basic characteristics, i see more of alix in tatiana while anastasia is a dead ringer for irene.

also the porphyria theory, i think, is quite possible.  it would explain the pains in the legs and back, the headaches, the toothaches, the emotional roblems, skin blotches, and photosensitivity which she suffered from.  i wonder if the medical profession of her day was able to run simple lab tests, such as urine analysis, blood counts, and such?  an undiagnosed problem as troublesome as porphyria, would be bound to cause much anxiety for her.  not knowing what was wrong could cause her imagination to run wild and that, on top of everything else (political and personal) she had to deal with, could have made her the perfect candidate for panic and anxiety disorder.  interesting........

i must get that book.  hope it is not hard to find.  thanx for the info.  from reading the book, was there much reference to or connection with the hemophilia gene and porphyria?  i guess my question is, was she more susceptible to porphyria because she was a hemophilia carrier?
