Tatiana Nicholaievna / Re: Question about and/or Help with a Picture
« on: January 25, 2005, 05:11:23 PM »
Possibly it was double exposed?   I like the effect though gives him a ghostlike appearence.

Perhaps, although I'm no expert on photography. The guy's boots look pretty solid though. Either way, I think it's quite neat.  ;)

As for Tatiana, is it possible that something was suspending her in the air, a rope perhaps? She seems amused by what's going on in the picture, so I'd assume that she knows how she looks in it. The background is also very dark and obscure, so the effect is much greater.

Now that I look at it again, it almost looks like a hedge.....

Maria Nicholaievna / Pictures of Marie Thread
« on: January 24, 2005, 08:55:27 PM »
I was surprised to see that, forgive me if I'm wrong, that there is no general pictures thread for Marie, unlike the other Grand Duchesses. I find her the most attractive of all of them, and it would be a shame not to compile a thread for her. anyone?  :)

Anastasia Nicholaievna / Re: Anastasia Pictures
« on: January 24, 2005, 08:50:47 PM »
While it is most definitely difficult to tell for sure whether it is Marie or Olga in that picture, I think it's Marie for two reasons: 1) her and Anastasia are wearing matching outfits. It appears in most photographs that as the girls got older, they broke off into the "Little" and "Big" pairs in terms of coordinating outfits. I could be wrong, but usually Tatiana and Olga would wear something similar to the two younger girls, but generally not the same. 2) the girl in the picture has a slightly rounder face. Marie is known to have that cherubic type of face. Also, if you look at other pictures of Marie with her hair up, she looks like the girl in the picture.

Anastasia Nicholaievna / Re: How did she hurt her leg?

Wow what a great picture! I love MN's hair also, but the picture gives me a real view of all the girls faces. Thanks for posting.
As for her leg, like anna said Anastasia could have hurt herself playing rough. I doubt it was something serious.

^I agree. Although I think that Anastasia's hair is quite lovely there as well.............If I'm not wrong, I also believe that you can see Anastasia's foot deformity in that picture, unless she's scrunching her toes purposely......I think I recall hearing that it was worse on the left foot than the right........

The Alexander Palace / Re: The Alexander Palace at the Newark Museum
« on: January 20, 2005, 06:04:04 PM »
I went two days before the exhibit closed, and I must say was very impressed with their collection. The personal items they had fascinated me, especially the children's belongings. I really enjoyed those "fan letters" as well. I didn't even know that they received fan mail! Unfortunately because of when I went, I missed all of the smaller programs that the museum held and they were all sold out of those exhibit books. I had to order one from them *scowls*. Overall, an excellent display of Romanov treasures.  :)

The Alexander Palace / Re: Floorplan of the children's rooms?
« on: January 20, 2005, 05:57:48 PM »
Has anyone ever been up there at all? And or what conditions are the rooms in presently. Are there future plans on restoring these rooms if they haven’t been already.

I've always wondered this myself. What has become of the Children's Rooms? I know that they were badly damaged when they were used for that children's home, but is anything left? Are there any pictures of what they look like today?
