Are you sure it's not just a retitled version of the book she's already written?

Do you what's depressing? My library has two out of the three (the terrorisme volume and the 2 volume set) and THEY JUST SIT THERE. I'm tempted to take them and never give them back, but I can only imagine how much they would make me pay to replace them.

It looks like Greg King has a new book coming out! It's not about royalty per se, but the closest thing we Americans have got--the Astors!

Thanks for the info, Sarushka.

What utter crap. I don't find anything about this story line to be "romantic" or "gripping." I think a more accurate description would be "illness inducing."

Interesting. Amazon seems to have posted an entirely different synopsis of the novel--I do hope that the one above (however inaccurate) is indeed the storyline of this novel, because the one below makes me sick.

From Publishers Weekly
Historical maven Erickson (The Hidden Diary of Marie Antoinette) delivers a top-notch narrative featuring beautiful and courageous Tatiana Romanov, daughter of Nicholas and Alexandra, during the final years of their reign. As life becomes increasingly bleak in prerevolution Russia, Tatiana sneaks out of the palace and sees firsthand the poverty and violence pervading her country. With Communist rebels shouting for equality and enemy countries invading, Tatiana befriends a young and destitute pregnant woman whose fiancé has just been murdered by Cossacks, opening up her conscience in unexpected ways. But as the czar falters and the czarina takes refuge from her afflictions in the company of Father Gregory (better known as Rasputin), Tatiana finds solace in the arms of a fierce patriot. Erickson creates an entirely convincing historical backdrop, and her tale of a family's fall from power and a country in transition is both romantic and gripping.

Oh my! That's definitely something I will have to see when it's completed.

Palaces in St. Petersburg / Re: Winter Palace

I'm sure there already is a thread--it's been around for awhile. Anyway, I love this film--every shot is just beautiful and the storyline (if one could call it that) is intriguing, or at least I thought so. The ball sequence at the end is simply wonderful. *Sighs dreamily* You really must watch it Alixz--it is indeed a classic!

Charlotte ? You mean Maria Carolina, Queen of Naples right ? Yes, shewas the closest. But she also written a last letter to Maria Amalia, Duchess of Parma. I don't think she like Mimi much, but still the Mesdames or Marie Therese did met this sister...

Yes, I meant Maria Carolina. :) It's certainly possible that she also wrote to Maria Amalia--she was not considerably older than Marie Antoinette.

It is available from Amazon plus other outlets. A search for "The German Woman janet ashton" will show up the outlets.

Ooh, congratulations Janet! :D I look forward to reading it! Is it going to be available on Amazon or just through Belgarun?

Ah, you are right. I had only checked Amazon.com when I posted. I see now that it's available on Amazon.co.uk.  :-[

Did QA had correspondences with her sisters ? If so have they been published ?

I haven't seen or read any correspondence between them, but I imagine that if she wrote to anyone, it was Charlotte. They were the closest in age after all and quite fond of each other.

In a recent email with Mr. Gilbert, he has said he hopes to publish it in 2009.
He is going to Russia this summer to finish his research.  :)

Did Mr. Gilbert mention anything about the book's content? I'm curious as to what it will contain, because you can't get really far with descriptions of the children's personalities and hobbies....

I too have been looking for this. Any information would be appreciated. :)

The Alexander Palace / Re: Floorplan of the children's rooms?

I unfortunately don't have an answer to your question. Sorry. :(

However, as for the door, there obviously had to be one. It's likely the artist didn't paint the side of the room with the door.
