The Alexander Palace / Re: December 1998 AP Photos - A

:-[ It saddens me greatly to see the palace in such shape. I really wish I was a lottery winner, I would go all forth and restore the palace to it's full beauty!

Thank you so much Scott for sharing those, it's a sad wake up from the pictures I've seen with the IF.

I've been very interested in this film! This is the kind of thing where we need some fans who would take the time and sub this for us.

Since I am a anime fan, there are a lot of only Japanese shows I see, and fans sub them.  If I understood Russian, I would do this myself.

Does the DVD work in our American Region DVD players?

Interesting posts here  ;)
I was going to comment on weither Nicholas had any sexual contact with anyone but Alix, because I believe that there was a point where NII had MK do like a bellydance striptease. But when I checked my sources, it was quote on page 21 of Nicholas & Alexandra (by Massie) in the paperback version that he did see bellydancers striptease, but it was not MK.

Here is the quote:
"Russians become increasingly interested in the local bellydancers. "Nothing worth talking about," Nicholas wrote after watching his first performance. But the following night: "The time was much better. They undressed themselves"

Men... ;D

This is wonderful!

I only wish I could win the lottery and restore this beautiful palace to the stunning beauty she once was!

LOL Laura! That's what I kept saying as I went around. I wish I could touch everything! :) The people that get to pack up the stuff and set it up are so lucky! Imagine what it would be like to hold their albums and look through the pages :o just like they did! When I saw the albums I got emotional...I can just picture them sitting around in the Mauve Boduoir in the evenings pasting photos to the pages....

I agree!! I really wish I could be there to pack stuff up! Instead of the folks getting paid to pack it up. I would pay them! :D I'm really excited about going!

To anyone that has already gone, what kinda dvd's where they selling on the IF? ???

I know this thread is old. But I am curious, has anyone been able to find recordings of their voices yet?  :-[

Last night the Drive In Channel played "I killed Rasputin" It was an old 1967 picture with horrible acting and a bad English dub over French. It also has a really distasteful tag line : He raped a country and died for a woman! :-/

The movie was a adaptation the Felix Yussupov's book Lost Splendor. Bob has this book to read at:
http://www.alexanderpalace.org/lostsplendor/

There is also a little movie tidbits here:
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0061829/

Has anyone else seen this?

It's great to read all the supporting posts on the exhibit. I have a feeling I will be blown away because it will be the first time I've ever seen anything belonging to the IF.
I know I would want to open the glass and touch everything  ;D .... but I know I can't ...lol...

Hey All:

To be frank, I was kind of disappointed in the exhibition.  I suppose I was expecting something similar to the Broughton Exhibition in Wilmington, DE so I thought I'd be spending all day looking at the exhibition and then another two hours or so in the gift shop...  Not so.

Going through the exhibition (at most) took an hour.  Going through the items in the gift shop (which was severely limited and severly over-priced ($13.00 for a freakin magnet!) took about 20 minutes.  Like AnastasiaFan, I only spent $40...of which I bought the catalog ($25), and 2 hand-painted mouth blown glass eggs ($8.95 a piece).

Not to sound overly negative because I don't want to discourage future exhibitions...but it really wasn't worth the drive...

Just my opinion...was anyone else disappointed?

That does sound dissapointing.  To be honest I was going to save like $250 just for the gift shop. I wanted to get one of the necklaces, and definatly going to get a cataloge. I wish I could have gone to the exhibit in DC. Problem is I was younger when that was one, and had no car of my own  :(

Sorry to bump this thread up, but I just joined today and this is a topic that I would like to ask about. I had wanted to see the lecture with Mr.Massie, but due to the fact that my car died, I couldn't make it. However I will be going within the next month. I guess I have a few questions, if someone could help me that would be awesome.

Questions:
a) Can I take in my Digital Camera?
b) What other things could you buy that isn't shown on the Newark site?  -- The reason I ask this is because I live in Canada, I gotta bring my money before I cross the border, so I would like to have a ballpark figure of what I should expect to see --
c) Well, this was almost already answered, but I was just curious anyway.... I would like to be able to take my sweet time through this exibit, and take in everything I can. How long do you guys suppose it takes to go though? Should I go at opening and manage to be done by close? Or should I take this over a few days?

Did anyone get a picture of Mr. Massie? If you did, I would forever love it if someone would email me a pictiure of him (lmabee@gmail.com)

Thanks so much everyone ^_^
