The Windsors / Change of name to Windsor in 1917
« on: October 11, 2010, 01:31:42 PM »
I used the search engine , nothing came up on the change of name of the Saxe Coburgs to their new name Windsor in 1917, must be a user problem
I like to get more information on the name changes on the Royal Family and their relatives

I like to find out who was the the Admiral of the Baltic Red Fleet during the sailors revolt at Kronsdat in 1921, it is called the third Russian Revolution, and the name of the Imperial ship he used as his flagship, not sure if it was the Standart.

I watched Part One yesterday, it is a Discovery and Russian channel production, it blends archive material with reconstructions with actors playing Nicholas II and Lenin etc. The documentaries main story line is about the how the navy took control of Kronstadt Island during the Revolution in 1917
In Part Two, next week it is about Lenin's suppression of the sailors revolt, it takes you to the actual locations - like Kronstadt and St Petersburg.

This BBC documentary series, made in 2005 is  hosted by Dan Cruikshank, in the series he visits countries and their treasures, episodes 1 and 2 have been on the Americas, next weeks show is Australia to Cambodia,it is on the ABC  in Sydney on Saturday night for any Australian AP members..Has anyone seen this series and the episode on Russia.

In Hollywood in the 1920's there was a colony of White Russian refugees many of them nobility and high ranking ex - officers who had fled from the Bolsheviks via Siberia and made a living, working as dress extras. They could be trusted to look well in uniform or white tie and tails and to behave with confidence in any scene, have there been   any books published on these colorful Russians ;)
