;) I agree Eddieboy!!!! and unfortunately this painting is nothing if you compare it to the terrible thing they did to her! I read once some memoirs on the French revolution and there was some witness account on her massacre and it was terrible!!!!! :-[

Dear Antoinette on page 5 I started a thread on madame de Pompadour with some portraits,  I found her very interesting, Alexandrine was the name of her daughter, she was a pretty intelligent little girl, Madame de Pompadour had for her the highest ambitions. She was educated as a "royal princess" in the Convent des Dames de L Assomptions, which was very exclusive, Pompadour wanted Alexandrine to marry le Comte du Luc, a illegitimate son of Louis XV but as Ilyala said the king was not interested in such thing. After several possible candidate, she finally got a mariage promess from le Duc de Chaulmes for his son le duc de Picquigny, the mariage was supposed to take place when Alexandrine would be 13, but she died in 1754 form a peritonite, Madam de Pompadour was very fond of that child and was very sad at her death.

Here is a portrait of Alexandrine:

Dear Imperial Opal I recommend her Memoirs which are very interesting! Great Thread! Here is some information on the faithful Tourzel:

She was born Louise-Félicité-Joséphine de Croŷ d'Havré, Marquise (later duchesse) de Tourzel (1749 - 1832) She was the last governess to the royal children of Louis XVI of France and Marie Antoinette after Madame de pOlignac left the country.

Louise-Félicité married in 1766, at the age of seventeen, to the Marquis de Tourzel. They enjoyed a happy marriage for twenty years, she had six children. Her husband was killed in a hunting accident in 1786.

As you mentioned she was close to die during the september massacre. She was greatly shocked at the news of the death of Louis Charles, and during years she was accosted by various men pretending to be "Louis XVII of France".

here is a portrait of the old Duchess (she was made duchess by Louis XVIII)
