Hi!

I've been inactive for quite awhile now, but would love to get involved in some discussions again. Anyone interested?

Apparently, more still.

I recalled the murder of those poor Norwegian children was close to the anniversary of the Imperial Family's murder. Losing children strips us of our future. Surely Russia would have been better off with Nicholas' children alive, just as Norway would have been better off with their children alive!

The Final Chapter / Re: People Being 'Horrified' by OTMAA's Murders?

Josef Stalin's mother asked him if he had been involved with the murder of the Imperial Family. He said no. His mother was Georgian, and not well educated but the murders were very important to her. I would imagine for most subjects, the murder of the Emperor was vitally important. Stalin's mother was horrified by the murder of the family, I should add.

The Imperial Family / Re: Royal matches for OTMA
« on: July 16, 2018, 04:20:12 PM »
Just a few random comments about OTMA marriages.

1. Olga was very religious and that meant she was not interested in marrying Carol of Romania or Dmitri Pavlovich, both of whom were "players". In retrospect, she would have been better served marrying Ioann K in theory but there was no romantic spark, so he married Helen of Serbia.

2. None of the girls could have married unequally due to the Fundamental Law of the Russian Empire. I believe had there been no war, the older two would have been introduced to other royal eligible men with the hope that a match or two could have come from it.

3. I have stated over the past 50 or so years that we can figure out some probable marriages for the girls based on the marriages of the men who would have married them:

A. Olga - Alexander of Yugoslavia (1888 - 1933) was sincerely Christian and was seeing Olga at the AP right before the Revolution. His sister Helen was living in Russia and she was known to support a match with Olga. He had no engagements until he married in 1922 and broke down when he was told of Olga's death.

B. Tatiana - Edward VIII (1894 - 1972) - Tatiana had the kind of personality to be able to dominate her spouse without being obnoxious. I think World History would have been changed if this marriage could have happened.

C. Maria - George II of Greece (1890 - 1947) - these two could have made beautiful royal babies together. Both were good looking and while he was not a successful monarch, he seemed to crave the domestic life that Maria wanted.

D. Anastasia - A Romanov - had her sisters all married sovereigns (or about to be sovereigns) - it is likely that she could have had her pick among her family. The Konstantinovichi  brothers had handsome and talented young men who enjoyed theater as she did.

There will be a series of events this week in Yekaterinburg. There will be a pilgrimage from the site of the Ipatiev House to the Four Brothers mine.

Both my grandmother and my mother said they thought Russians were savage people because they killed their own royal family. Grandma was born in 1906 and mom in 1936. Horrified didn't begin to describe their emotions about the children being killed.

As we saw with the 2016 Presidential election in the US, women can be trashed and their reputations destroyed with far more ease than can men. It is disgusting and demoralizing to see this happen but it has happened many times throughout history. Alexandra is but an example.

Ally, thank you so much for finding the citation regarding VMH's offer to take in her nieces! I wasn't able to give Ilana Miller the info before her bio went to press.

Nuclear DNA tests undertaken after the first round proved that the 5 corpses believed to be those of Nicholas and Alexandra's children were in fact fathered by Nicholas II in addition to being mothered by Alexandra. Anna Anderson has been proven to have no relationship to either of the two sovereigns and was in fact Franziska Shankowska.

To paraphrase Olga Alexandrovna, because people want to believe the fairy tale.

Even if Grand Duchess Elizabeth and Prince Nicholas of Greece had been madly in love, which they were not, there was no possibility of a marriage between them.

Ella married Serge in 1884, when Nicholas of Greece was 12 years old, far too early to marry. Ella remained married to the Grand Duke until his death in 1905. Prior to this, Nicholas had married Grand Duchess Elena Vladimirovna in 1902, and they remained married until Nicholas' death in 1938.

So, they were both never available at the same time.
