The Greek Royal Family / Re: Greek royal jewels

Same here Brassov. You would perhaps think that if they disliked the piece so much, as to not wear it, then they would have sold it by now...

When the Greek Royal Family went into exile in 1973 where they allowed to take with them what they liked?

Are there any books currently available about the Grand Duchess?

I have just started reading "Dearest Missy". Containing the letters between the Duchess of Coburg and her daughter Marie. It's quite an interesting read, the Duchess appears quite a loving mother, which I didn't really expect.

A few photos of 28 Draycott Place! It's not as grand as I had imagined but is a lovely building! There is a date stone further down for 1891. It is now 6 flats.

Thank you for sharing Le Roi Soleil! I love the Kings sitting room & bedroom, lovely interiors!

Maybe Xenia was able to save up some of the allowance allotted to her by King George...

Going from memory didn't she sell of items like the 50+ piece dinner service? And didn't Xenia receive some money from properties belonging to the Tsar in Finland?

I would also reccomend "In Royal Fashion: Clothes of Princess Charlotte & Queen Victoria" It is a wonderful book full of fantastic photos of the clothes & accessories which have thankfully survived!

Would she still have been there in 1921? If so when the 1921 census is eventually released it will be interesting to see who was living there with Xenia. I imagine she still had a retinue of servants!

If anyone is interested there is a house for sale on Draycott Place listed with Marsh&Parsons.co.uk it has 10 bedrooms and is on at the bargain price of £10.500 million or roughly $16.300 million dollars! the interior's have been modernised beyond recognition unfortunately.

They are very large properties! Such a shame when people modernise them beyond recognition, it shows no respect for the history of the property. If they want a modern house they should buy a modern property!

Apparently Xenia never spent a penny on herself and gave it all to her sons. I work in Chelsea, I will see if I can get a photo of number 28 Draycott Place!

I have just read "Charlotte & Leopold" by James Chambers. Nothing new particularly but a very good read none the less, I really enjoyed it!

I am now re-reading Princesses, The Six Daughters of George III & really enjoying it also!

OctoberLily, wonderful post! Thank you.

Do you remember a few months ago the Duchess of Cambridge wore a black evening gown with a beautiful diamond necklace. It was apparently a gift from a family friend.

Lovely picture, thank you for sharing Keith!
I think Queen Mary is on George V's right & Queen Alexandra is on his left perhaps?
