News Links / Wildfires in Fort McMurray

Hey everyone,

so I'm sure by now you have most likely heard about the wildfires that are tearing through the northern portion of Alberta, Canada. The entire town of Fort McMurray (or Fort Mac to us Albertans), population 88 000 has been evacuated and nearby towns to the north and south, including the oil fields have been as well. Yesterday, we had our first human fatalities from the fire, when we lost the daughter and nephew of the deputy fire chief while they were evacuating the area. I am lucky to not have family that lives in the area (but do have an uncle who was working in the oil camp north of the town), but do know people from the town and have coworkers with family there.

Having Fun! / Non-Royalty Artwork

I searched the forum and couldn't find a topic specifically for non-royalty art (other than the colored pictures) so I thought I would start one. If this isn't allowed, please feel free to remove it and let me know.

So, I guess I'll start with something I just finished... This is a sketch that I made for my friend's birthday... she's a HUGE How to Train Your Dragon fan. So, I drew a picture of Hiccup (the boy) and Meatlug (the dragon).

News Links / Devastating Wild Fire in Alberta

Hi everyone,

I just wanted to bring forward some news from my neck of the woods, here in Canada. Last week, a devastating forest fire ripped through the small town of Slave Lake, Alberta, leaving at least one third of the small town in ruins. As someone who has spent almost her entire life in southern Alberta, I had the pleasure of living in Slave Lake for almost 5 years and have gotten to know some of the families who lost everything. One of my co-worker's father's an RCMP officer, and her brother is a fire fighter that is there right now, battling this disaster.

I pray for all of those who have lost everything and hope that those who are there to help remain safe and sound.
