The other thread was getting a bit long, so here is the second part.

King George I.

A thread to discuss the lesser known Ducal families and branches of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg.

The Duchy of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg, founded by Duke Hans The Younger (1545-1622), son of King Christian III of Denmark.
When Hans The Younger died his duchy was divided in to five small Duchies, creating the five main lines of Sonderburg.
1. Duchy of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg (with many cadet branches, including the Augustenburg and Beck lines).

2. Duchy of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Nordburg.

3. Duchy of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Glücksburg (Elder Line).

4. Duchy of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Plön.

5. Duchy of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Aerö (Ærø)

Hi. I'm trying to find photos (not portraits) of Emperor Ferdinand I (1793-1875) and Empress Maria Anna (1803-1884), so I would be very happy if you had some to share. Thanks in advance and I do hope they exist!

The Windsors / Possible brides for QV's sons
« on: March 15, 2009, 07:17:32 PM »
I was trying to remember the seven Princesses that were mentioned as the only possible wifes for Albert Edward, because of their protestant faith and their age. I  once started a thread on this subject (which gave all the answers, but I'm afraid I have forgotten them again :-[), but it vanished.
I have always found it interesting to see which royals were mentioned, more or less seriously, in connection to each other.
Anyways,  in Berties case I think the following Princesses were talked about, Elisabeth of Wied, Anne of Hesse, Alexandra of Denmark, one of the Hannovers, and the rest I can't remember.

I broaden the topic as it would be interesting to see the possible brides (maybe it's just me) for all of Victorias sons.

Princess Thyra of Denmark was seriously mentioned for Arthur, but he was not a favorite of her mother Queen Louise who wanted Ernst August of Hannover.

Has anybody read the book, White Crow, The Life and Times of the GD Nicholas Mikhailovich Romanov, 1859-1919, by Jamie H. Cockfield? I thought it was quite interesting, learning more about "uncle Bimbo", although at times I thought the author was a bit harsh in his views on the Romanov family and the book had some errors.

French Royals / King Louis Philippe and his family

I would like to start a thread about King Louis Philippes children, and their spouses. I'm especially interested in the Duke(?) and Duchess Joinville. Thanks for any info. :)

Iberian Royal Families / Braganza royal family & Brazilian royalty
« on: March 19, 2005, 10:18:26 AM »
What was the story about the empire of Brazil? I know that the Royal family moved to Brazil because of the Napoleonic wars. But how did that go about? Did the Brazilian population like them, and who did they work with in the country?
I find it a bit complicated with some of the family going back to Portugal, due to the civil wars of Portugal with Maria II da Gloria and such. (Much like the Isabella story).

Great idea with an Iberian royal section..
I would love to know more about Isabella. I know she had many lovers, and was unpopular among the population.
What happend to her after her abdication?
And of cource some pictures of her would be great!

Books about the Romanovs and Imperial Russia / E.E.P Tisdall
« on: March 15, 2005, 01:40:40 PM »
Has anyone read the books by Tisdall about Empress Maria Feodorovna, Queen Alexandra and King Georg I of Greece? If so, what do you think about them?
These were some of the first books I read on royalty. I liked them very much back then, but know they strike me as being inaccurate and not so good!

The Danish Royal Family / Princess Anne, born Bowes-Lyon
« on: February 15, 2005, 12:02:58 PM »
Does anyone by chance know how Princess Anne was related to the Queen Mother of GB? She married Prince Georg of Denmark in 1950, who kept his prince-title eventhough he didnt marry royalty. He was son of Prince Axel, and grandson of Prince Valdemar of Denmark.
