Svetabel,
Thanks for going through all the trouble to get these photos posted.  And thanks for sharing them with us.  It is wonderful to see the rooms the Imperial family actually lived in.
If you have any more to post, we look forward to seeing them.
Thanks again,
Bob G

Still get an error message when I try the link.
Maybe you need to post it again now that you've made it public.

Could you identify what room on the second floor plan that Vladimir posted is considered "The Music Room."
I have looked at my old information including the plan and rooms of the Children's floor from the AP site many years ago, and there is no room identified as the "Music Room"
Thanks.

Douglas,
I am confused as to what room you are referring to as the "Music Room."  On the floorplans listed on the Palace Main menu of this site, no room in either N&A rooms or the Parade rooms is referred to as a Music Room.  Could you clarify using the numbers on the AP floorplans?
Thanks.

Vladimir,
Thank you so much.  This is a plan that I have been waiting for years to see!
You are truly generous to share this with those of us who love the Alexander Palace and want to learn more and more about it.
This will add to my knowledge, but I know I will now want to know how all the rooms on the Right Wing Second floor were used.
Thanks to Bob and the AP main site, we know quite abit about the Children's wing.
I can't wait to see Brian's reaction!
Thanks again.

Vladimir,
I'm another person who woulld be thrilled if you could post additional plans of the AP.
It would be wonderful if we had plans of the second floor especially.  The main floor has been well documented.
Thanks again.

I just read in Grand Duchess George  book A Romanov Diary about the Imperial rooms at Gatchina:

"Strangely enough the family chose to live in the entresol which was originally intended for servants.  Guests were lodged in the usual big rooms above the unpretentious entresol."

I think Alexander's influence was a big part of this decision.

I have been trying to find information on where GD Peter Nickokayevich lived in St. Petersburg.

Quote
I just read in A Lifelong Passion that Anna Virubova first met Rasputin at Grand Duke Petr Nicolaevich and Militsa's palace on the English Embankment.
Does anyone know what Number the palace was?

Quote
Actually Petr Nikolaevich and Militsa Nikolaevna lived on Petrovskaia Embankment, near the St. P&P Fortress.

Quote
The palace that Petr Nikolaevich and his family lived in on the Petrovskaia Embankment is no longer there.  It was torn down in the 30s to make room for, I believe, the Comintern headquarters.

.

according to Zoia Beliakova in ROMANOV ST PETERSBURG, this was the building in which Petr Nikolaevich (and family) rented 2 floors

Does anyone have a sense of when Peter N. lived at each location?  Is there a picture ANYWHERE of the palace on the Petrovskaia Embankment?  Any help is greatly appreciated.

Scott,
If that's a "stitched" photo--you are even more incredible as a photo editor than you are a photographer!  Whenever I try something like that, I end up with a huge seam down the middle.
Your pictures have been a joy for all of us!  I envy the time you spent at most of these sites, but am truly grateful for your generosity in taking the time and effort to share them with us!
Thanks again.

Helen,
Thanks for the update.  We will keep our fingers crossed that once the transfer is complete, there will be a movement to really fund and restore the palace.  We all look forward to the day when the AP once again is the home of Nicholas and Alexandra!

I had always planned to go to St Petersburg only after the Alexander Palace was restored.  I used this forum to learn of its current status.  Then in 2002, I had the opportunity to travel with family to Moscow and Petersburg and made my visit to the AP.  Although I was happy that part of the palace was open to the public, I was so disappointed with the state of the palace and the grounds.  And Scott's pictures tell us that things are only getting worse.

While there is talk of rebuilding the Lower Palace at Peterhof, the AP is getting more and more run down.  What can we do to reverse this trend, and find a way to get the palace back on the restoration track?

Here's the photo mentioned from the book Russian Court Memoirs.

Just found the book in a used bookstore.

David,
I'm sure this is someplace else, but do you know the Russain and English  equivalent of Ober-Stalmeister?  I have been trying to understand the positions at Nicholas & Alexander's courts and still have no good chart of all the positions.
I could not find Ober-Stalmeister in my current info on the table of ranks.
Any help would be appreciated.

I agree with all regarding the need for restoration of the AP and it seems like nothing will really happen until the current military occupants vacate. This would require some movement on the part of Putin's government to make this happen. Once the palace is free of its occupants, then the possibility of a restoration/reconstruction can begin to happen.

When you see the pictrues of the private rooms of Gatchina, you see how MF created "victorian" cluttered interiors which were just as personal as Alex's Maple room.  I think N&A interiors are probably more historically valuable than the Palace as originally designed.
