Aloha All!

Warning!!!

Am I the only one who, when you click on these photos it routes to some bizarro Russian website with a big blow up photo, but which also tries to put a virus on your computer?

I've "clicked" on the photos twice now and each time I get the "virus blocked" from my antivirus software and then I have to totally restart my computer.

Don't know why this would be the case only for me, but that is what is happening.....

Alexandra Feodorovna / Re: Alexandra's Clothing; Formal and Informal
« on: February 13, 2013, 03:42:13 PM »

Aloha all!

I've always found Alexandra's weight to be interesting....who knows why?  LOL

The fact is that she was pregnant 5 times in what I think we would consider rapid succession...and even though I've never had a child...that has to wrek havoc on your body I would think.

You see many photos of her (most in fact I think) where she is obviously tall, with excellent posture and appears very slim I think...the only time that I can remember thinking she looked
"plump" was following the birth of Alexei, in which time she does appear at least in photos to be much fuller in the face.

I know that at one point in her life (I can't recall when she started)...she was a vegetarian I believe and you read about her pretty only much eating "macaroni" during their exile in particular.....

I love her clothing choices personally...the long, flowing dresses seem to me at least to be much more attractive than the "hobble skirts" that were in fashion during at least some of her reign.

Corsets sound like torture to me...but they obviously gave you wonderful posture!

Aloha!

Glad that the Kindle edition came up finally....I figured for $9.99 I could give it a go....just started it today and pretty much as others have said....nothing new and not written as a novel, which I think is a good thing personally.

But I'm enjoying it, even though it isn't telling me anything that I haven't already read elsewhere, and with a few inconsistencies as well.

I'll have to finish it before I decide if I'll purchase the paperback when it does come out on Amazon here in the U.S. ......I'm already got so many Romanov books that I have to pull a book out of the bookshelf and stash it in my secondary cabinet in order to put another one in....so it has to be worthy!  LOL

Forum Announcements / Re: +Robert (Bobby) Hall

Aloha.....

I am so very, very sad to hear of Robert's passing here.  He was a wonderful, kind person to me.

While I only knew him thru our interactions here on the AP site and thru our postcards back and forth - he was invariably lovely and helpful to me always thru the years and even sent me a wonderful audiobook to have on my looong first flight to Europe back in 2010 - I always sent him postcards from Paris and he would send them to me from England.  I still have them and will treasure them now even more.

I personally feel as if I have lost a good friend - he was unfailingly kind to me and I know he was a fellow animal lover as well.

My thoughts and prayers go out to his life partner and his kitties......he will leave a very, very big spot that can't be filled here on the AP site, as well as in many of our hearts.

Aloha ia 'oe Robert - Ke Akua Pu.........

Aloha!

Yes, I see that now the shipping charges are 13 pounds - that is lower than they were earlier last week when I checked (I think they were 20 some odd pounds) - but at over $30 US for
this book, I think I'll still wait until someone reports back here on it - I'd like to know if it is a worthwhile read or not.

Interesting that they've dropped the shipping price down.....

Aloha!

I was all excited about this too - for about 5 minutes!  The fact that I know next-to-nothing about the author, there is very little information given on the book - and
the sky-high costs of purchasing it here in the U.S. - all facts that made me say - "I think I'll wait for Amazon to get it" - or at least until someone here gives it a glowing
recommendation that would warrant putting out that kind of $$.

Tatiana Nicholaievna / Re: Tatiana Photographs III

Aloha!

There is another similar type photo of Maria dressed in the same type of clothing elsewhere as well.  I've never seen either of them in any better quality unfortunately.

I'd like to know more about them, but all I know is that it was some type of "dress up" of some type - whether for a play or not, I don't know.  Also not sure of what year.

Aloha!

I'm got kind of a different question - anyone know the photo of the 4 Grand Duchesses in the birch forest picking mushrooms - they are leaning against a tree?  Where was that taken and what year?

Anyone?  I cannot find the photo in my books and I didn't label the site or year in my photofile on the computer!

Appreciate it!

Aloha!

I went to Librarie Galignani in Paris a couple of weeks ago - where I have previously found all my Jacques Ferrand books - but unfortunately this time, they only had a very few volumes (3 I think) - and I already had all of those.

I was disappointed, but still came away with a couple books on Royalty (Six Years in the Russian Court and a biography on Ludwig II).....they have such a huge supply of royalty books!

Maybe next time I go (hopefully soon?) - they will have more Jacques Ferrand books for me to complete my collection!

Aloha!

I happened to be in Paris when all the furor over the "Closer" magazine was going on - it was out on the newsstands for 2 days I believe - after that, I didn't see it any longer.

It had a picture of the Duchess of Cambridge sans bikini top on the front cover - and quite a few pictures inside as well.   The cover kinda caught your eye!   :o

I agree that privacy should be respected, but I also think that even at a private estate, you should be very careful about removing your clothing outside - if you are a member of
the British Royal Family.

I think she learned a hard lesson about being "Royal" on that vacation.......

Aloha all!

What wonderful reads!  I too love the "moose head" story!  Love GD Olga for having some sympathy for the poor, young moose as well!

The other one I laughed out loud about was the Grand Duchesses rushing thru the imperial halls on their bicycles - what an image that conjurs up!  LOL

Thank you so much for sharing those!

Aloha!

I'm hoping these books will be available at Librarie Galignani in Paris - they have tons of royalty themed books and there were so many on the
Romanovs that I hadn't seen before!

I'll be there in September, so I'll definitely be looking for these - thanks for the information on them!
