The Yussupovs / Re: Photos of Felix Yusupov

I remember this photo being posted a while back, maybe it was labeled then?

I read that Dmitry called Olga Paley Mamushka or some such name whenever he visited her. She wrote in her memoirs that he was very knowledgeable, pleasant,  and clever etc. But Dmitry would write letters to the Tsar that were pretty acerbic in nature and basically said he didn't care whether he ever saw them, etc. It's hard to say what either of them thought of each other in honesty, because it seems to me Dmitri would play up some things to make Nicholas laugh, or to agree with him, but would then be very nice to Olga P to her face. But also we keep in mind, people's feelings are not the same all the time, and perhaps their opinions of each other changed quite a bit over time. It would not be difficult to imagine that the woman who essentially took away his father, Dmitry would have mixed and complex feelings about. So I think the same general idea could be applied to Maria as well. I think Maria felt strongly about many people in her life, but this doesn't mean she ever makes up her mind for good about how she feels.

Well my mistake if I am wrong, I don't think it looks very characteristic of him.

This is definitely NOT Dmitri. The two men in this photograph are Vladimir, the son of Mathilde Kschessenka, and Feorodr Alexandrovich, son of Alexander Mikhailovich.

Interesting, I wonder if Felix Sr and Ella got along well, as Felix Jr mentions in his memoir Ella was like a second mother to him

I would love to read those letters. Ella and Alexandra Georgeivna of Greece were also quite close before she died, wonder if there is a correspondence there as well?

I agree, it almost makes me think it isn't Zenaide, but it is right?  Has it been labeled or are you going by sight?

Ella looks so young and pretty, do you have the year this was taken?

May I ask Sara Araújo, where did you find the letter to Jean Cocteau from N Paley? She writes very eloquently

Where is the evidence of Felix's generosity to other emigres? I'm not suggesting it didn't happen, just asking for sources.

There are many stories of his generosity (and that of his mother during her tenure in Rome).Grand duchess Marie Pavlovna the younger,Pauline Gray (grand daughter of Natasha Brassova) A Kenneth Snowman  and Princess Tatiana Metternich are among thefirst sources that spring to mind

Felix Yusupov did not disclose the extent of his generosity even to his wife. It was only after he died that she found out how much he had given away to those in need.

I have read his eyes were green-grey or blue-grey.
