The Windsors / Re: Queen Elizabeth II Part IV

The Queen has let it be known that she 'does not want any fuss'

Isn't that just like her - all the more reason to make a fuss.   It will be 1:30 pm here in the US, so that's late enough into the day for me to raise a toast (although I doubt I'll be popping the cork on a bottle of champagne) .  I have great admiration for QEII.  God bless her and I hope she breaks many more records!

Does anyone know if the Royal Family, or Great Britain as a whole will be celebrating Her Majesty's reign surpassing that of Queen Victoria's in time length on the 9th in a special way?   Any parties planned?

What a sweet photo.  I assume that's one of her grandchildren with her.   When I see these photos of OA in her later years I can't help but wonder what memories she had stored in her mind of her past life.   I wonder if she dreamed dreams of her past life often and whether they were happy or sad dreams.  I know this is silly, but she was a witness to so much grandeur and so much horror, I wish she had left more detailed memoirs.

I just saw this photo for the first time.  Without a doubt this is the most gorgeous picture I've seen posted of Maria.   She's stunning here.

did she ever do an interview
I devour everything I can find written about OA and the closest I've found to an interview would be Ian Vorres book The Last Grand Duchess.  He had quite a close friendship with her in her lasts years/months.   She seemed to trust him  didn't seem to shy away from answering his questions or talking about sensitive subjects.

If you enlarge the photo you will see that Tatiana is half-sitting on the fence which would also account for the difference in height.  It's hard to see that in the small version.

Prince George is a cutie, but am I the only one who has never seen a photo of him smiling?   Even when he's around baby animals he doesn't seem to be as animated or bubbly as most babies would be - always has a stern countenance.

Try as I might, I do not see Alix in Maria at all.
I agree - usually I don't see any resemblance to Alix in Maria - but there is something about the squint of Maria's eyes in the picture above that resembles a picture I've seen of a mature (maybe about 35-40 yr. old) Alix, I think one taken on the Standart, where their profiles are very similar.  By that age Alix's face was more fleshy.

Beautiful photo.   It's one of the few where I can really see some of Alexandra's features in her.

The Bouviers - are you referring to JBKO's family?   They were not Philadelphians.   I believe they hailed from New York.

Yes, you are right, although the first Bouvier lived in Philadelphia.
That's right, and he was French.  What does that have to do with Grace Kelly not being comfortable speaking French?   I've read several of your posts on this forum and you always seem to go off on tangents.  It appears to me that you are trying to impress (someone?)  with your knowledge of languages when all you really do is confuse the issue of the orginal post.

She's from Philly. We don't speak much French here :-)

I guess the Bouviers were an exception among the Philadelphians. But with the city having the second-largest Irish population in the US, it's amazing to think of what a (passive) Gaeltacht it once was!

Very well said Sanochka.  I'm sure I'm not the only one who shares your sentiments but would not have been able to phrase it as well as you  have.   To FA - your sentence above . . This discussion won't encourage Bob to get the page up any faster I can assure you. . . . I hope both you and Bob realize that the majority of us who frequent and have learned so much from this forum are very, very supportive and appreciative of both of your efforts.   My humble thanks.

These are wonderful photos.  Thanks very much for posting them.   I'm sure they're going to be of great interest to everyone on this forum.   Hope you post more in the near future.   Good luck with getting these shown in Russian museums.

2) They risk upsetting Alexei who goes and cries to his Mama that he isn't allowed to partake in the fun. These would be reasons enough for a normal parent to put a stop to such behavior, don't you think?

On the contrary I think Aleksei would benefit most from learning to manage disappointment and jealousy rather than simply avoiding it.
And let's not forget that as Tsarevich, Alexei was most likely accorded many more advantages overall than OTMA would have received - I'm assuming.
