BlessOTMA and HistoryFan - right!  This made me think of Nicholas who reportedly had poor dental health.   We certainly have access to better dental care now than they did at the turn of the century, but Nicholas could have afforded the best the world had to offer.  I often wondered why he didn't take care of that.   Forensic reports state that Alexandra and the children did have expensive (for the times) dental work done.

YKYOWTR when you are admiring OTMA's gorgeous long hair in photos and think to yourself  "Gee, if only they had blowdryers and the great hair products we enjoy today, can you imagine how much more drop-dead gorgeous they would be."   I think I notice this because I have the kind of hair that when I was young could not be grown too long because it just went limp and stringy.   Those girls all had luscious heads of hair that I would have given anything for.

IvanVII, here is the clip from the Romanian visit.  The photo shoot scenes begins about marker 1:15.   It's a shame that Maria is cut out of a lot of that segment until she gets up to go to Olga and the baby.

Alexandr P, great story about mending her hankies.   That just raised her even higher in my admiration.   One other trait I noticed about her from my readings - she always seemed to put others before herself no matter what their station.

95
Yes, down to earth.  She most likely developed that quality from her close relationship with her father who taught her to appreciate the simple things in life.  So, despite her plain looks, IMO she out-shown other the bejewelled, shallow ladies of the Court.   She's someone I would have liked to have known.

From everything that I've read about GD Olga Alexandrovna, she seemed to me to be the cream of the crop of all the women of the Nobility of her time, including her sister and mother.   I was so  impressed by her inner strength and grace through all that she endured during and after the revolution.   As far as I'm concerned, that's far more impressive than outer beauty.

Here's the translation (thank you Google):
PARIS, September 26. / Itar-Tass Dmitry Gorokhov /. The eldest in the family of the Romanovs Prince Nikolai Romanovich 90 years old. Historian and curator of the traditions of the family, he was almost a quarter century, the dynasty led by the union.

"In our family - from the first emperor to the present day - I'm the only one of the men who lived to 90 years - told the ITAR-TASS chief of the direct descendants of Emperor Nicholas I. - None of the Romanovs, from Tsar Mikhail Fedorovich and including all subsequent generations, has not reached that age. "

According to the hero of the day, health problems, he does not feel. "I feel pretty good for a 90-year-old man - said the prince Romanov. - But doctors recommend, however, be careful not to overwork, especially with regard to long-distance travel."

Nicholas R. Nicholas is a branch in the senior male line of the dynasty. His father, Roman Petrovich - the prince of the imperial blood, second cousin and godson of the last Tsar, his mother Praskovya Dimitrievna - daughter of Count Sheremetev Demetrius, a childhood friend and aide-de-camp of Nicholas II.

Parents married Prince in exile. Russian bank after the revolution they had left among the latter. Lieutenant Roman Romanov, a participant of the First World War, was 22 years old when, in parting with the Crimea, he took a handful of earth into exile. "He could not go back, but full of Russian land in Crimea bottle stayed with him everywhere, wherever he moved," - says Nikolai Romanovich.

In France, do not forget that in the 1st World War, Paris was saved thanks to the efforts of the Russian army on the Eastern Front. When, after the revolution there were thousands of Russian immigrants, the country has given shelter to the exiles, among them members of the imperial family. Born in Antibes, September 26, 1922, Nikolai Romanovich, however, perfectly said in Russian. It is a merit of parents, he said, to bring up children "is entirely in the Russian spirit."

After the family moved to Rome in the pre-war years, he entered the classical department of the Lyceum. In 1942, the 19-year-old Nicholas Romanov turned down the fascist government of Italy to become the king of the occupied Montenegro. Since July 1944, he worked in organizations allies engaged in military actions against the Nazi propaganda.

For many years, his leisure time is devoted to studies on the history of the Russian Navy and the Army. He published the book "History of popovok" - the class of battleships, named in honor of Admiral shipbuilder Andrei Popov. Now on the computer - a treatise on the Grand Duke Nikolai Nikolaevich, who headed the Russian Army in the First World War. "The heroism of Russian soldiers in the two greatest wars of the twentieth century should not be forgotten: they saved Europe - notes Prince. - Without Russia failed to."

After the war, the family settled in Egypt, then returned to Europe. In January 1952, Prince married an Italian Svevo della Gherardesca, heiress ducal family. Before the family moved to Switzerland, he managed the estate in Tuscany. At the princely couple's three daughters and grandchildren. Granddaughter Nicolette - famous film actress.

Heading in 1989 to address the relatives of union members of the Romanov dynasty, he set a goal to "achieve chinnogo and historically correct" ceremonial reburial of victims of the Yekaterinburg tragedy. In July 1998, he took part in the funeral ceremony in the Peter and Paul Cathedral of the remains of Nicholas II, the royal family and those who shared with them the tragic moments in the Ipatiev house.

Of recent events in the senior Romanov family to a special place puts restoration of canonical unity of the Russian Orthodox Church after the schism caused by the revolution and civil war. "Those days are long gone, the reasons for the disorder is no more, - he said. - This is, of course, a historical event, and it shows that Russia - one." No question of dynastic claims, Nicholas R. says: "Neither I nor the rest of the Romanovs not claim anything - just for the right to be re useful for Russia." One of the initiatives of the dynasty - a charity fund, which at the request of the Prince of Denmark led to his younger brother Dimitri Romanovich. Among the good causes fund - to hospitals and day-care centers in Russia.

pastpalacelife, if you have Google Earth downloaded you can locate the house easily.   It's on the NW corner of the intersection of Tserkovnaya and Srednyaya.  Go into "street level" mode and you can see three sides of the house.   I just measured the distance to the AP gate - approx. 310 yards by street.

In the first photo posted by RomanovMartyrs, the baby on the right certainly looks like infant Olga N, but who is the woman and the other baby?   Anyone know?   The woman does not look familiar to me at all.  A nurse maybe?

Chris, I couldn't agree with you more on every point you made.   I, too, wish that the Royal Family could enjoy privacy.  I hope that things will change for the better after this unfortunate incident.
I want to make clear to those who've posted in defense of Catherine and William - it was not my intent to "trash" either of them.   I am a huge fan of  Kate's (I still am) and was simply disappointed because  this could have been prevented.   She has conducted herself in regal fashion over the years since she and William became a couple.   I have actually been proud of her, speaking as a "commoner" myself, albeit an American.   I truly feel for her right now.  I know this faux pas was totally innocent on her part.   I believe all of us who have posted on this topic are in agreement on that point.

"The Queen was lucky enough to have grown up at a time when the press was not so intrusive".  Exactly!  But times have changed, and as I mentioned before, there is no place on earth outdoors that is out of range of a camera lens nowadays.   If someone leaves their doors unlocked and comes home one day to find they've been robbed blind, the thieves are no less guilty because the doors were unlocked but the victim is still looked upon as being foolish for tempting fate.   I don't see a whole lot of difference in what has happened to Catherine.   To me, this just shows a simple lack of common sense on Catherine and Williams part.

Very nice BlessOTMA!  I've never seen that one before.   You're right, both girls are looking very beautiful and mature.  And the men aren't too bad looking either!  Do you know what year this was taken?

I do agree that the French publication that printed the pictures should be dealt with harshly, but everyone, especially the Royal Family, knows that the paparazzi are snakes.   They shouldn't be surprised or miffed that the snake bites when teased.   Frankly, it makes the Royal Family look a little silly and as others before me have alluded to ,  the Queen does not deserve that.   She's always managed to keep herself above that.

Thanks for your reply.   I understand your position.   It would be a shame if the items were not eventually returned to be a part of the AP collection.  The fact that these were items that went to Tobolsk and Ekaterinburg with the family makes them very special, no matter what condition they are in.
