Hello everyone,

I am doing a little research about how the the members of the Imperial Family and the aristocracy managed to leave Russia with her jewelry and then, how they sold these jewels in order to start a new life during the exiles. I am looking for books -specially auto-biographies, memoirs...- written by members of the Imperial Family and the nobility and with any chapter -even a paragraph would be enough- dealing this topic. I read English and French, so titles in both languages would be very useful! For the instance, I have found a few ones: Felix Yusupov and Grand Duchess Maria -later Princess of Princess of Sweeden- memoirs, John Van der Kiste's biographies about Grand Duchesses Victoria Melita and Xenia (where he transcribed excepts from letters and documents about the sale of their jewelry collections).

Do you know more please? I am specially interested in the ones written by members of the Russian aristocracy, as I am not very familiar with them (excerpt for Felix Yusupov of Sergei Obolensky).

Thank you so much in advance for your help!

Best wishes and stay safe,

Alejandro

Sorry, I don't know if it came from Ortrud's family or from Ernst August side...

What about the aquamarine necklace set she was wearing ?

The necklace was made with pink topazes:

it doesnt look like the "butterfly tiara" either

(via royalweddings)

Close up of the tiara, compliments to Manuesevilla!

I think its just the same tiara you posted in page 1 ;-)

Ortrud wore, behind the little diadem, the nuptial crown of the Hanover:

Maybe the same little crown that Ortrud wore when she married Ernst August in1951?

Thanks for posting ! I do collect postcards of the Cumberland girls. I see more of Alexandra of Mecklenburg-Sherwin in jewels than Marie Louise, who was usually photographed with her her husband & two young children in daytime dress.
Alexandra of M-S had quite a number of jewels...at least 4 tiaras apart from the towering diamond and amythest diadem (which belonged to a parure and was part of the house gems) she wore 2 of them at the wedding of Fredrick of Denmark and Ingrid of Sweden but then they disappear off the radar.I always wonder if they were left hidded in Ludwiglust when they fled west in 1945..indeed that might have been the reason their son Christian Ludwig returned to Schwerin and was capturd by the Russians...however nobody ever seems to know anything about their fate. Of course their married daughter who lived in Flensberg before the end of the war might have already received a share.
One worn at the theatre was a large diamond affair topped with coloured stones (rather like the Leutchenberg sapphire tiara in the Swedish royal collection...this could have been the aquamarine and diamond tiara which was commissioned by the Grand Duke in St Petersburg as a wedding gift for his bride.
The other was a rather ugly, weird shaped affair(maybe a aigrette sans plume) worn in a wedding group photograph.

Hi! What are the two diadems that she wore at the wedding of Frederick of Denmark and Ingrid of Sweden? I only saw one of them...

Regards and thanks in advance!

Are these two the diadems that she whore?

Grand duchess Alexandra had, at least, another diadem: a fringe tiara. But I have not seen more photos of her wearing more diadems (fringe, aigrette and tall diadem with coloured stones)

Regards!

Well, the pearl/emerald tiara that Tatiana wore it's the first time that I have seen it (maybe a Hesse-Kassel piece). But see that:

The sister of Tatiana wore a Hesse-Darmstadt tiara at Benedikte of Denmark's wedding day!

The photo was taken in 1968, after the end of IIWW. Maybe it was sold?

Do you know if the diadem that is wearing Tatiana of Sayn-Wittgenstein-Berlebug in this picture is a Hessian jewel?

I was wondering if there are some info about which exactly jewels are at the Central Bank in Rome. I had a discussion in another forum about this and i d like to have the right info to keep the discussion. Thanks in advanced.

In the meantime, two of the lot of jewels that were sold by Marie Gabrielle  in 2007

(I dont remember seen images of Maria Jose wearing this tiara)

Necklace

Queen Maria Jose never wore this diadem. She inherited it when her brother died (in the eigthies I guess).

Hello! I  would like to know more about the Bavarian Royal Jewels. It seems that the collection was amazing!

What about this ruby and diamond parure to begin the topic?

Regards!

Teddy, there are dozens of such books, on both the Windsors  and other topics regarding royalty. Just 3 on the D&D of Windsor are  THE WINDOSR STYLE- Suzy Menkes, THE PRIVATE WORLD OF THE D&D OF WINDSOR- Hugo Vickers & THE JEWELS OF THE DUCHESS OF WINDSOR-Culme & Rayner.
There are several  on the others, particularly a glut of them on the late Diana, Princess of Wales and not a few from the recent Jubilee of the Queen.
Books on the continental royals, both collectively and individual families, books on palaces, jewels and heraldry & genealogy.
Robert Golden has a nice series of "small" coffe table picture books, as does  William Mead Lalor [Royaly before, between and after the wars]
There are some lavish books on the Indian and Asian monarchies. And the Ottoman and Pahlavis dynasties as well !
Several auction catalogues serve quite well as coffee table books- Windsor, Hannover, Princess Margaret, etc.
If you have any in particular you are interested in, let me know and I can tell you what I have. Also Arturo has a great selection of  such books
I am sure this thread will build up quite a list in itself !
 Cheers,
 Robert

Hi! I have two questions:

-Do you know coffee table books about Pahlavi dynasty? I have never seen any :(

-Do you know more photo-books about Duke and Duchess of Windsor?

Regards and thanks in advance! ;)

Queen Anne Marie was very beautiful and she wore her jewels very well, as a true queen:

-Do you know this diadem?

-With the emerald parure:
