It sure did! I found out I had accidently set the site to 'block' instead of 'allow' cookies and I fixed it, no more problem!

 :)

All of my old posts have the word instead of the smiley. It's crazy to see the word "Cheesy" at the end of my post. So funny!

Please check for the virus assault again. I'm having a very hard time opening this site or refreshing any pages (and not having the same problem with other message boards) and my virus protector has popped up twice in the last hour. Thanks.

Annie,

The slowness of the forum has nothing to do with a virus attack of any kind. The server is secure.  However, there are so many users in here at one time this morning that the server is having a hard time keeping up with all the requests.  We have over 100 registered users/guests AND we have something like 75 "spiders" from Google and Yahoo.  (we actually have all these all the time now, we are so popular with the major search engines their bots are in here all the time and just yesterday I discovered that Google is now picking up and ranking new posts in the Forum just FIFTEEN MINUTES after being posted. Just another good reason to make sure you mean to say what you write before hitting that Post button! Google might have it up on the front page of a search request before you change your mind!!

Oh that's right! It's slow because of all the visitors reading about the new find! At least it doesn't give you a 'server too busy' message like other sites. Thanks!

My smileys don't work and neither does my avatar picture.  I just have a red x.  I can see some avatars of others but not everyones.

The FA is working on the smileys.  They have been gone for a long time.

If you get a red x for any picture, it is because the link to the picture has either been removed or has a different address.

For your own avatar, find another address or create your own link and it should come back.  I had the same thing happen to me and I had to find a new source for the picture I wanted.

It's a pity indeed, I thought it was only my own PC problem. I can use the smileys, but don't see them, when they appear somewhere...I see only a little red cross, where the smileys once had been. Does anybody know the problem or knows what can be done to get them back?

Thank you!

I miss the smileys, too.  I started this thread on August 16, 2007, so they have been gone a long long time.

I hope to see them come back soon.

I've tried and tried. It seems to be some database issue, but we really don't understand why they don't appear anymore. they "should" according to all the settings and programming, but they don't. We just cant figure it out.  No offense, but it really isn't a high priority in terms of the hours available to spend fixing the forum.

Sorry.

Well I, for one, do not miss the blasted things. I find them childish and annoying.  Pity that is the only way some people have of expressing their thoughts- through silly cartoons.

Actually, the day before the smileys disappeared, my antivirus would give me a warning anytime I visited a page.  When the smileys disappeared I assumed the virus had corrupted the software or the forum had disabled them.
