Godmothers
« on: November 29, 2007, 06:26:27 AM »
Does anybody knows who were Maria´s godmothers?

I think I once read Ella was one of them, but I´m not sure.

Olga N. wrote a letter to Olga A. and signed it 'your goddaughter'  so maybe she was both O and A's God Mother? Or all of the girls? just a thought!

Now that I think about it, I think I hard that from somewhere....

A great satisfaction:) I was right!

I read carefully several Maria´s letters and in one letter to Ella Fyodorovna there is this:

My address: Ekaterinburg, The Regional Executive Committee, To the Chairman for transmission to me. May God keep you + Your loving god daughter.

Is that all, though? I thought Olga A. was godmother to more than just Anastasia, and Olga N. was godmother to Aleksey.

I believe Olga Alexandrovna was also a godmother to Olga N., and little nine-year-old Olga was godmother to Alexei.

Beats me -- I just pulled the list off an old thread. ;)

Which makes one wonder about the family "politics" about these things.  To name the first dau. after Nicholas' youngest sister could potentially offend a LOT of others (thinking of Maria F. esp.).  I would think it surprising if Olga A. wasn't a godmother, since the child was named Olga.  But then wasn't there some story that made it out to be it wasn't for Olga A. in specific?

Another interesting note, looking at those lists, is that Queen Victoria is only godmother of the first child, yet she lived till several others were born.
