A Project Regarding the Romanovs (Please Help! :))
« on: August 27, 2007, 07:10:00 PM »
Hello there!

I thought I'd send out a request here for some assistance because it seemed the only appropriate board for the request! I'm a senior in my high school and to graduate, I must write a ten page paper and complete a large project that shows some type of learning experience. I would LOVE to do something regarding the Romanovs, but I am having a hard time finding a good topic to research. Some kind of mental block on my creative mind!  :( However, with the discovery of the two bodies, my passion for the family has been rekindled yet again, and I want to share this with my school community. I think involving the Romanovs would make for an excellent graduation assignment.  :)

I guess I would just like to know if anyone has any ideas on what type of topic I could research? I was thinking perhaps I could look at types of leaders and their influences in their countries, but it doesn't seem to present some type of learning stretch and hands-on experience. PLUS it is not related solely to the Romanovs. Any help would be so appreciated!  :) I know this sounds like a very random plea, but I am desperate to graduate and spread the word about the Romanovs' amazing story! Thank you in advance for any assistance!  :D Of course, in my project, any help I receive will be credited, as there will be a committee judging me!

Please, could someone help in any way? There's so many people on the forum and no one can help?  :(
If I've posted this thread in the wrong section of the forum, please let me know. Or if I'm not supposed to do this on the forum at all, it would also be good to know! :) I thought it was all right simply because I've seen others posting poems and stories, so I thought asking for help for a project could not be too far off the mark. Well, if anyone can help, I would appreciate it. :)

I don't know...maybe you could do something that would just show the Russian revolution from the Romanov's side (and the side of all the land owners and such), because you usually only hear it from the side of "the people" which is really the revolutionairies.

Natasya, thank you so much for replying! I know I'm being a little short asking for help so desperately and expecting the crowds to come running, hahaha,, but the reason for that is because I have only a little time left to change my topic. I really, really like your idea, also because it seems I continuously have to defend the side of the royalty and land-owners in classes. Thank you very much for the suggestion.
The only problem is that I have to somehow show that I've learned a great deal and can interview or ask people about the material...UGH, I hate these ridiculous projects we have.

Again, thank you so much for the idea. I will try and ponder it longer to see if there is anything I can take from it that would work! Of course, if I do use your idea, I will not fail to mention you! :D

I'll remain open for ideas, anyway, though! :)

I think if I was doing a paper or project I would do it on the little known good works of Nicholas and his family.

Not many are aware of the charity works or the contributions to the war effort. The simplicity of their daily lives.

History portrays a sterotype royalty.

Hope this helps.

Yes, that's wat I was doing last year. I also did a project about the Romanovs, I stole my topic a little from 'Anastasia's album', 'the life of the last tsar family behind the palace gates'. Your not dutch right? :P If you were, I would've send it to you.

I have to thank you both, very much. :) I've only just returned to the forum after some break of time, and I forgot how friendly and good-natured everyone here was. :) I've just been very desperate trying to find a topic for my project!

azrael7171918  , thank you VERY much for your suggestion! Natasya suggested the same thing, and it really is a good point to highlight! I think, in the end, my school will be a little strict and ask me to include more to it, perhaps how modern governments are also, but as long as I can include the Romanovs, I will try and be happy! That's a beautiful topic though, and if I cannot use it for my senior graduation project, I will use it for one of my school papers! (crediting in the paper both you and Natasya for the idea! :D) Thank you again! I will also have to research more into that!

Missy-T,

Wow, that sounds like a beautiful book! Hahaha, unfortunately, I am not Dutch, though I stayed with a Dutch family in Leek, The Netherlands for a couple of days two years ago. :) You wouldn't happen to know any Van den Heuvels, would you? :)
On the topic of the, well, topic I posted, I don't actually read Dutch, though the family I stayed with did try and teach it to me. :) I still thank you very much for trying to help me out! :D May I bother you and ask what that book is about? It's all right, if not. I do appreciate that you read the thread! :)

Thank you to both of you!

I tried replying days ago but it wouldn't work!! I hope its not too late...

I thought maybe the project could be on the true story of NAOTMAA. They've been portrayed as just an average stoical Royal Family and you could reveal what life was really like for them, how they acted, and how much they were like any other family. For example, out of the 11 Palaces they owned, they only lived in one year round except for holidays. Or that the children were made to clean up after themselves and sleep on army cots. Really just give a "behind the gates" look on this fascinating family, from Rulers of the Russia to Exiled in Ekaterinburg, you could have different sections on N&A (their passionate relationship), OTMAA, Hemophilia, The effect of Rasputin on the family and how he helped bring down the Empire, their Palaces and yacht (The Standart), Relations with other Royal households (Nicholas was cousins with King George V of England and Kaiser Wilhelm II of Germany) The 1905 Revolution, the Anger built up during the war (or even the blunders made during it) , the final revolution of 1917, their exile, and finally their deaths and the mystery following it. I hope this idea helps!!

If you need ANY good books to help or photographs, by all means just PM me!!!

Missy~T, hahaha thank you for your help! And that's okay, I know there are probably so many Van den Heuvels in the Netherlands anyway. It was worth a shot! :D

NAOTMAA Fan,

No, it's not too late at all! You have no idea how much I appreciate this! I still have time to choose the subject of my project! Not much time, but hopefully enough! :D
I love your idea so much! It ties in well with azrael's idea! I think it would be great to show something like that, especially, like you said, since so many people just see them as the common royalty and don't realize the simplicity of their lifestyle! I can't thank you enough! :) I'll keep all of it in mind, and when I go to present my project to my teacher to see if it will be accepted, I'll be sure to let you know! :D I think I do that tomorrow...It's certainly sometime this week. And also, thank you so much for offering to help with pictures and things--you have no idea what a relief that is! Hahahahaha,I really appreciate it. And of course, as I said in my first message, if I do end up doing this topic (I seriously pray that I get to), I will to be sure to mention you, as well as azrael and Missy~T, in assisting me when I present to the committee! Thank you!

Hello, Grand Duchess Marishka.

Have you thought about focusing much on OTMAA?  I think it would be great to give each sibling equal time in a project like this.  Anastasia is well-known in popular culture, but we rarely get to hear much about her sisters and brother.

This should be a matter of "OTMAA... Olga, Tatiana, Marie, Anastasia, and Alexei," not something like "OTMAA... Anastasia and her siblings."

Oooh! Antie, I love your idea! I really do like it, actually, because if I had to pick a favorite of OTMA, I would pick Olga! I think it would be really cool to tie that into the whole idea of how they were just a normal family, like everyone else has said! And then I could have a specific section for each of the children, a section--like you said--which is often skimmed over rather than elaborated upon!

Thank you soooooooo much! :D This will be such an amazing project if it works. And as I have said before, I will not present this project without having this list of Thank-you's and Credits to all of you who have helped!

:D:D:D
