Orthodix religion
« on: June 16, 2008, 06:43:38 AM »
Hello all,

I was wondering how many of the member of the forum are also members of the Russian Orthodox church or if any members have considered converting?

Compared to the Church of England the services are breath taking.

I regularly attend St. Benedicts Russian Orthodox Church in my hometown. It's always beautiful and there is a big portrait of Nicholas and Alexandra.

As a Greek , I am member of the Greek Orthodox Church , but I also venerate the Holy Royal Martyrs of Russia . Althrough I did not saw any icon of them in the Orthodox church in my parish or in other parishes in Komotini ( and....whole Greece) , I have 2 icons of them in my house .

Orthodoxy is open to all those who want to join us , and everyone can come to see the true faith . I apologise if my post is offending some of the members of the forum .

:-)

I´d love to know more about Orthodoxy. In fact I was deciding between orthodoxy and Christian society, but in the end the second one won, because it´s ecumenic :) I love the idea of all Christians (and people) being "one".

Yes, but what's the fondamental difference between Orthodxy and catholiscism ? I've heard it was something like the Son is the Father and for the other one the Son was a part of the Father ?.. I don't remember well. Someone told me that orthodoxy was mort into religion and celebrations than catholiscism.

Son is not part of Father----Orthodox Religion
Son is part of Father--Catholic Religion
Correc if I am wrong, not sure with this above.......

There is some difference with using breads, with or without leaven.
And, way of wear is different---with or without beard....
Yep, Orthodox celebrate more Saints, and oftenly Historic people that became saints, in my country, for example, in Russia...
Next, way of looking at nature and world is different, I think maybe biggest difference.
Then, way of buliding Church or Monastiries, Catholic made tall buildings, with high towers, Orthodox didn't. Then door of Churches in Orthodox is open to East, of Catholic to west...
I think I explained........ :) ;) There're more differences, of course....

According to wikipedia in Orthodox Religion: "The Holy Spirit is believed to eternally proceed from the Father, not from the Father and the Son"(as it is in Catholic Religion)

Son is part of Father in both Religions.

There is a huge amount of information available on the net as well as on this site. As an Orthodox Christian, I am (naturally) of the opinion that the Orthodox Church is Christianity in its fullest expression and is the direct continuation of the Church established by Christ and the Apostles after the Resurrection. The Roman Church and Orthodox CHurches were one and the same Church until (formally) 1054, when there was division over the filioque and Papal Supremacy, both of which are not part of Apostolic tradition. Since the split many other differences have caused to make the differences between western Christianity and Eastern Christianity quite big.
