Indeed...However the situation went quickly. I think had GV known he would have the family taken to Malta or Gibralter before making a decision on the final destination. On the other hand, the Germans (who gave safe passage to Lenin) knew what the Bolsheviks were capable of, hense the offer of safe passage to Ella (from Willy personally) to flee Russia. Had she taken the offer, she would have been alive...

No...GV did resue (or tried to) quite a few royals, but his lack of hindsight led to the death of a close cousin. He must have felt it in his old age, as his granddaughter still made it a bone of contention before making her trip there.

Good for the Queen and of course Prince Philip who I understand once said "those bastards murdered half of my family". The Queen had known Olga and Xenia quite well so one can understand the human perspective

Indeed...Philip's sisters and cousins (Marina, Duchess of Kent included) had played with OTMA as children, not to mention the Queen father had met them during their visit to England.
