Hi,

I think Marie and Ferdinand would get along with George and Olga, as they were cousins of varying degrees.
Marie offered Olga refuge after the revolution but I can't remember whether Olga accepted or not.

The main reason for any anomosity would have been in the next generation.
Carol of Roumania married Helen of Greece and that didn't work out.  In fact, Carol treated her very badly.
George II of Greece married Elisabeth of Roumania and they didn't like each other much.
This should have been a grand uniting of royalty (a Roumanian brother & sister marrying a Greek brother & sister)  but it just desolved into a royal feud.

true ... not to mention how much the romanian side didn't want alexandra to marry king peter of yougoslavia ...

but since there were never bad feelings between the romanian and greek people and royal families were somehow all connected I just wondered if there could be something more there ...

I think Princess Elizabeth of Romania was considered odd and very selfish even by her own family. It is not surprising that her marriage to George II did not work out. He had the last laugh though as he was restored as King after the departure of the Nazi Germans and what was she then? She had diivorced him and was basically nothing.

as was Carol....the way he cheated on Elena....and then ditching them, leaving the country to his five year old son....immature if you ask me

Carol II was a weird one. He was totally irresponsible. Apart from Helen, the one who I really felt sorry for was Michael. Carol II just really did not care about his son. Even today Michael is ambivalent at best about his father.

who could blame him? i mean seeing the pain his father put his mother through...
being a little boy of five, learning that you are now king cause your dad ran off with his mistress and abandoned you...
gah...he's even lucky he got to see his son after he came back...

Well it depends on which generation you are speaking about.
Obviously King Michael had extremely close relations with his Greek family.  After all, King Paul was his maternal uncle, and King Constantine and Queen Sofia his 1st cousins.  Michael did marry in Greece and they attend each other's events.

Marie and Sophie were two different people, with two different characters.  Marie flamboyant though charming.  Sophie dutiful yet very serious.  Unfortunately, their children had their mother's characteristics and this is probably why the marriage of Carol and Helen didn't work.

Well...Sophie was very reserved while Missy was very modern and forward. Like chalk and cheece I guess.

I  may be a bit biased, but all that modernity and forwardeness didn't help Marie when it came to her children, who ended up being spoiled brats and incompetent royals, whereas as Sophie's children were all dutiful and played their roles satisfactorily.

Indeed...But she turned bitter quite early on. Missy had her trials too, but she chose to move on.

Marie never had to go through the periods of exile that Sophie endured. Marie never had to deal with her husband being deposed and losing the country over which he reigned. She also never had to deal with having Wilhelm II as her brother. Marie did though suffer cruelly due to the vindictive petty behaviour of her notorious son, Carol II.
