Elizabeth II descends from the royal house of Wessex via Edith/Matilda, first wife of Henry I. She was a great-grandaughter of Edmund Ironside, one of the sons of Ethelred the Unready. If you believe the West Saxon genealogy, the Queen descends not only from Cerdic but also from the pagan god Woden.

Harold II left a number of descendants. One of his daughters married Vladimir Monomakh, and a descendant of theirs subsequently married one of the Plantagenet kings, but I will need to look up the link.

Harold's daughter Gytha married Vladimir Monomakh. Their son Mstislav, Grand Prince of  of Kiev, had a daughter, Euphrosyne, by his second marriage, who married Geza II of Hungary.

Geza's grandson, Andrew II of Hungary, had a daughter, Violant, who married James I of Aragon. Their daughter, Isabella, married Philip III of France, and was thus the grandmother of Isabella of France, who married Edward II of England.

If there was no battle of Hastings, presumably Harold would have remained King of England, and the crown would have descended to one of his various sons.

A question just occured to me...If history had gone differently and thier had been no Norman conquest, who, as far we can tell, would be sitting on the throne now? I know king Harold had a couple of children...Impossible to really know, i guess, but  food for thought

I really wanted to know who is the rightful successor of Edward the Confessor. Clearly not Harold II who was just his brother in law.

I worked it out that the heir general of Alfred the Great alive today who is the rightful monarch of England is Infanta Alicia, the Dowager Duchess of Calabria, born a Princess of Bourbon-Parma. She is 95!

She is the rightful monarch of England as the heir general (as far as we can trace) of Queen and Saint Margaret of Scotland, the wife of Malcolm III. Queen and Saint Margaret was the great-niece of Edward the Confessor.

I worked it out that the heir general of Alfred the Great alive today who is the rightful monarch of England is Infanta Alicia, the Dowager Duchess of Calabria, born a Princess of Bourbon-Parma. She is 95!

A mere coïncidence that she also is a pretender to the Jacobite claim to the British thrones, according to one interpretation? See Wikipedia. Seems like this woman can claim to be the heiress of most of Western Europe!
