Love this thread!  As a dog lover myself (I have a Pomeranian and a Border Collie) I can totally relate to the royal's love of them.  Cats too.  My Pom, Penny, is my buddy; she's always there, sitting on my lap now as I type this, always ready to show her love.  Nothing like it!

While going through some of the Romanov and Hohenzollern pets,  many of the breeds were reestablished
by Queen Victoria.  So,  I thought I'd start a thread on the Hanover/Windsor pets.

If you find a photo with a family member and their dog/dogs ,  let's collect them here. If we know the names or some of
the history,  please add it.

Thanks.

The pug is thought to have originated in China.  It's ancestor was scaled down and became a favorite of ship captains and ended up in Holland.  In the 1550s,  the pug became popular with the royal members of the House of Orange.  William Prince of Orange introduced it to Britian in 1638.   The pug fell out of favor as other breed rose in favor.  Queen Victoria took a fancy to the pug and her kennels revived the breed.  The British Pug Dog Club was formed in 1883.
