Princess Beatrice is not just a royal clothes-horse.  Despite her dyslexia she has been able to gain a University degree, and she recently became patron of the Helen Arkell Dyslexia centre. I love that fact that she has agreed to become patron of the centre that helped her overcome her dyslexia. Respect goes out to her.

Not really. Genetics is a probability game. A great example, if I may because it strays from Princess Beatrice's thread, Crown Princess Mary of Denmark. All four of her children have blue eyes like their father, Crown Prince Frederik; however, Mary's eyes are brown, which is dominant over blue.

I agree with the probability point.  Science now shows that our old beliefs (brown dominant over blue) is not always that simple; my own family being a perfect illustration.  My grandmother had seven blonde, blue-eyed children.  All married dark-haired & brown-eyed spouses, yet all 7 couples produced only blonde / blue eyed children.  Even in the next generation, my brother went on to marry a Latina; their offspring had their mother's dark Latin skin and features, yet with my brother's striking blue eyes and blonde hair. 

I guess you never can tell - and the York princesses are another example (although red hair does tend to descend a little more prominently from what I've seen myself).

Anyone with "dominant" traits (dark hair, eyes, etc.), CAN have a masked recessive gene, which is how a recessive person (blonde hair, blue eyes) and a dominant person can have a recessive child.  Also, not all recessive genes line up, example: having one parent's dark hair (dominant) and the other parent's light eyes (recessive).  I know it's a bit basic, but good ol' Punnett squares explain all of this.

If the news is to be believed (without a formal acknowledgement), Princess Beatrice has split from long term boyfriend, Dave Clark. They had dated 10 years.

On another, happier note, today is her 28th birthday.
