Dietrichstein family
« on: October 18, 2007, 03:10:30 PM »
I am searching informations about Count Maxmilian Merveldt from Germany. I know his biography, but I need some info about his family – I only know, that he was married with Countess Maria Theresia Dietrichstein – but who were his parents? Has he any brothers or sisters? And has he some children?
Please, will you help me with this?

Mari, thank you very much for these links. However, this Maxmilian (1797-1849) is not his son, but a nephew.
But in "Google Book links" there are some interesting information, not about his family but about his life and profession. Thanks for it.

We should start this topic with brothers Franz Josef (*Wien 28.4.1767, +Wien 10.7.1854) and Moritz (*Wien 19.2.1775, +Wien 29.8.1864). Franz Josef was very interesting person, he is the only one I know, who refused the Order of Golden fleece. His marriage with russian countess Alexandrina Shuvalov was unhappy, but the couple has one son, Josef.
Moritz was preceptor of Napoleon II., son of Napoleon and Marie Louise. He was very fond of music and theatre – he composed songs and minuets, was director and intendant of Hofburg Theatre.
One of brothers fathered a famous pianist Sigismund Thalberg, but I do not know who – in sources on internet I found both names, Franz Josef and Moritz. Is it known, who was real father of Sigismund Thalberg?
And do we have some pictures of this two brothers?

There are some pictures of the brothers on the web.You must just google it out...Interesting thing is that Princess Alexandra von Dietrichstein(born Shuvalova) held the first position on the Vienna imperial court for a while...she was Grand Dame if it is called like that!

Yes, I found on the web some pictures, but only graphics. I hope someone here could have less known pictures, paintings etc.
Princess Alexandra Dietrichstein (born Shuvalov) was very interesting woman. She lived later with her mother in Italy, where both ladies converted to catholisism. Alexandra wrote a small book about it.

Apparently the last Prince fled Vienna for Argentina  and died ther in 1964. His daughter Mercedes is a psychologist, has married twice and has 4 children and 9 grandchildren .Mercedes is currently claiming the estates of her father: The palace in Vienna ( now the Foreign Relations Office of Austria), Nikolsburg Castle ( now called Schloss Mikulov was destroyed 1945)

Yes, Mercedes has 4 children (three daughters - Sandra, Victoria and Margarita, and one son, Felix) and 14 grandchildren:
Sandra has 2 children - Santos and Indalesio
Victoria has 6 children - Rufino, Marcos, Mercedes, Alejandro, Maria Victoria and Angeles
Felix has 2 children - Jeronimo and Damasia
and Margarita has 4 children - Federico, Sofia, Agustin and Benjamin.
I suppose they all live in Argentina (?).
