I just find the answer. Its indeed Louise

I think there s a similar portrait , but with Alice. There comes the confusion.

Yes, it's Louise. It's a pretty familiar image used in many of the John Brown stories. I wonder if the DM is revisiting the story because of the new bio? Publicity and all....

Edited to add--yes, I see they mention the book in the article.

A stunning portrait, Louise looking beautiful and very reminiscent of her mother.

I agree with you there--I was thrilled to happen upon this portrait, and it has since become my favorite of Louise.

There's also a pendant portrait of Helena. They were hung in the Queen's sitting room at Windsor Castle:

You can see them rto the lower sides of the Winterhalter family portrait. Louise was on the right side of the photo.

Also in the sitting room are portraits of Alfred, Victoria & Albert in costume, Victoria of Hesse, Charlotte of Wales, Arthur & Edward VII, Empress Eugenie and one of the Indian servants with Alexander and Ena Battenberg as well as the miniatures of her children on the firescreen. There are photos on her table of the Duchesses of Edinburgh and Albany.

For those interesting in Princess Louise's Canada years, my article "Princess Louise, Lord Lorne and the Emergence of the Canadian Crown" will be published in January, 2014 as part of the book, Canada and the Crown: Essays on Constitutional Monarchy

Has anyone else read Lucinda Hawksley's new book about Princess Louise? - I do not agree with her claim that the Princess bore a secret child before her marriage for the reasons I mention in my review of the book.
