Ooh, just had a thought, now that we've seen the Duchess of Cornwall in those ruby and sapphire necklaces, wouldn't it be delicious to see her wearing this emerald necklace for the banquet tomorrow night.  Camilla has worn some items from Mrs. Greville's collection, and this would be a terrific opportunity to bring out a really major necklace.  (crosses fingers...)  And maybe we could finally get a decent picture of the thing too.
Personally I think the emeralds should go to one of the more junior members of the royal family (eventually) like Beatrice or Eugenie. As their link with the royal family is so short AND there are much more historic emeralds to stay in the main/senior line...perrhaps it could be divided like other historic necklaces (Savoy etc) to make more wearable but still splendid items for a younger generation.

Yes...Althought it could well be given to Camilla to be used in her life time.  ???

Can someone also tell me which tiara is worn by Queen Alexandra in this picture.

Thanks.

It was one of her rarely worn ones and the dark stones were either sapphire or emerald but I can't remember off the top of my head. She had tiaras of both but preferred others that she owned--primarily the Rundell and her Russian Kokoshnik. The occasion was the wedding of her daughter Louise in 1889.

It was sapphire.

I do wonder about that tiara that Alix wore to Louise's wedding!!! I wonder if it went down the Fife line perhaps and was sold off before Geoffrey Munn could catalogue it, or whether it is lying in a vault at Buck House to this day!!

By the way, have either the ruby or sapphire parures the Duchess of Cornwall was given as pressies by the Saudi Royals ever had public outing? I saw the Emerald and diamond pieces t'other day....fabulous! But I vaguely remember seeing HRH in what I thought a rather hideous ruby bib-like thingy earlier in the year, she was wearing a claret velvet dress with a rather low neckline with the necklace, but I am unsure if that may be the same as one of the other pieces given by the House of Saud?

As posted on the RJOTWMB, The Queen wore that carved emerald brooch of Queen Mary's today.

I'm hoping a better picture will turn up!

As far as being worn in public, I believe so.  It is possible that HM has worn it 'around the house' so to speak...

That is evidence already. Pieces that are of Queen Mary's or those she does not like were stored away in the strong room at Buck house. A retired member of the royal household told me that there were boxes and boxes of jewels that Queen Mary lovely personally catalogued and that the Queen never touched it. Now perhaps she wants to change her jewelry wardrobe perhaps !  ;) Good news ro us all !

Can one imagine me, " old TampaBay",  "round the house" with access to OEII"S jewel box???

Victoria's Secret and Cartier all the way!!!

TampaBay

I can only imagine...those jewels would be in for the shock of their lives!  ;) :o :P  While we all ponder the visions that come to mind, here is another pic that has turned up.  From the RJOTWMB - posted by GiIIW.

There is evidence that there are jewels long in store..but there is no evidence to say the sapphire tiara either came to George V or is still at the palace....
