The necklace which was given to the Queen as a wedding present by the Nizam of Hyderabad was recently worn by HRH Catherine of Cambridge. Unfortunately I can't seem to upload the image, can anyone else help?

Hi,

Off Topic but please forgive me:

What is a NIzam?  Is he higher or lower than a Maharaja?

I remember when this necklace was given to ER II, but never understood what a Nizam was...
Thanks in advance for any explanations...

Larry

Below maharaja (high king), I think, because it signifies some kind of administrator, governor, vice-king, regent, deputy, vassal, lieutenant or stadtholder. The Nizams of Hyderabad officially ruled on behalf of the Mughal padshah / emperor, with the title Nizam-al-Mulk - administrator of the realm.

Берёзы севера мне милы,—
Их грустный, опущённый вид,
Как речь безмолвная могилы,
Горячку сердца холодит.

The royal and wealthy families from the Middle East seem to have filled that gap in recent decades.
