Last night the Drive In Channel played "I killed Rasputin" It was an old 1967 picture with horrible acting and a bad English dub over French. It also has a really distasteful tag line : He raped a country and died for a woman! :-/

The movie was a adaptation the Felix Yussupov's book Lost Splendor. Bob has this book to read at:
http://www.alexanderpalace.org/lostsplendor/

There is also a little movie tidbits here:
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0061829/

Has anyone else seen this?

I had always hoped that Lost Splendor would be made into a movie. I'd love to see this! 1967 was the year Felix died, did he get to see this?

Annie, that's a great idea. It should use that exact title and be crafted in a "Masterpiece Theater" style--i.e., not something cheap and exploitive, but a film with a strong script and a good director, focused on portraying the enigmatic Felix and his times. If I had the bucks, I would finance it . . . in my opinion, this is the type of project, with its themes of bisexuality and troubled national politics, whose time has definitely arrived!

HI
it's well known there are many films about Rasputin. one of them was produced in France in 1967.
Robert Hossein made a film called "I killed Rasputin".
Can anybody share with that video? i eagerly interested in it as Felix Yusupov and his wife Irina commented on that event. this is an opportunity to hear their voices and manners!
Please, help!!!

In going through my video shelves, I found I have this film, on VHS.  I do not recall ever even  watching it. As I no longer have a VHS player,  I guess I will not watch it until I can get it transfered to a dvd. Not sure what to do with all the other tapes I have since replaced with dvds either.

Hi,

It would be interesting to hear Felix's comments on this movie and so late in his life, as he died in 1967.

Now, I was searching some things at torrents.ru and I found "J'ai tué Raspoutine", at first I thought it would be just another dramatisation but then I opened the screens and I recognised Irina clearly, so I began looking for info on the film and I found that Felix and Irina gave an interview in this. Quite clever from the filmmakers to participate them into this because then they would surely not sue over this film. Now I downloaded the movie and it has 2 audio-tracks, both in French and Russian, and it looks really good - the sets and so on. Also I noticed that several pictures are included and that in the one scene where they appear - for an official photograph - their clothing really looks much as the ones they wore on the 1913-photoshoot. I only wonder who the people were, next to the Imperial Family, on that picture.

Now I don't understand French so I can't give my idea on the story, but it loooks quite fair to what was known at the time and it really looks like wonderful cinema. Now if anyone could translate what Felix and Irina are saying in the interview I would be quite grateful, in fact I am a bit hoping someone will take the time to work on English subtitles for the whole film, so I must thank those who wish to do it.

I was able to cut and post the interview part of the movie. They do some Russian translation over most of the interview, but still I thought it worth watching.

I'm on St Lawrence Island between Alaska and Russia in the Bering Sea; this computer has no audio but I watched the youtube video twice. I can't wait to get back to my village so I can watch it with sound! This is wonderful. Thank you.
