He is a rather dubious baron. Carl Philipp Platon Wrangell von Hübenthal / Wrangell-Rokassowsky, born 1896 in Yalta, was the son of jurist and state counsillor Stanislaus Alexis / Stanislav Alexey Wrangell von Hübenthal (not a baron and probably not a member of the famous Wrangel(l) family and Vera Platonovna Rokassovskaya, daughter of Baron Platon Ivanovich Rokassovsky, Governor-General of Finland 1861–1866.

Because his mother grew up as a baroness (from age 2) and his patrilineal surname is the name of a famous baronial family, I suppose he simply assumed the title of a baron. Not that uncommon among emigrés.

His grandfather was a German (probably Hessian) doctor who emigrated to Russia and Hübenthal does not refer to a Baltic estate, but a village in Hesse.

I at first thought this might have been the Wrangell for whom Wrangell Island in the Arctic Ocean was named. It seems not. That was Baron Ferdinand von Wrangell (1797-1870) who ironically never did sight the (eventually) eponymously named island on his 1820-1824 explorations.

Hmmm... No posts state his date of death. It's possible he did not live long in the post-revolutionary world. But if he lived beyond 1928 he would have a valid infringement of copyright claim  (at least as concerns the title) against Baroness (yes!) Sophie Buxhoeveden who wrote her own book on the same subject with the same title in that year. There may have been a lot of that "before the stom" material in play post Russian Revolution, but a decent agent and/or  publisher should have called foul on Sophie B.'s version.

Her reminiscences therein are worthwhile reading, by the bye.
