I'm confused by all the Tatiana Yussupovas. The dress looks 1840s or so.

I believe the portrait of Princess Tatiana Vasilievna Yusupova was painted around 1841.

It must be remembered that Zenaidas parents shared a grandmother...

I didn't know her parents were first cousins!

Are you sure?
Prince Nicolas Borisovich's grandmother (zenaida's father) was Tatiana Vasilievna Von Engelhardt who was Prince Potemkin's niece; On the same hand, Tatiana Alexandrovna de Ribeaupierre's mother was Ekaterina Mikhailovna Potemkina, so she was also related to the Potemkin family, if they were relatives it was on the Potemkin side but as of being first cousins????... I do not think so...
I am sure..Tatiana Vassilievna Englehardt was married first to her mothers cousin General michael Potemkine..her daughter by that union was later Countess De Ribeaupierre and amongst her children were Tatiana who later married Prince Nicholas Youssoupoff  only son of Prince Boris  the only child of Princess Tatiana Vassilievna by her second marriage to Prince Nicholas Youssoupoff....Thus Tatiana was maternal grandmother to Zenaidas mother and paternal grandmother to Zenaidas father.

Prince Nicholas Yusupov, Zenaida's father.

I knew I had saved a picture of him some time ago. I believe Svetabel posted it a few months ago.

Tatiana Vassilievna was also painted by the celebrated artist Louise Vigee Le Brun...during the artists stay in Russia 1795-1801

Thanks. Both this and the childhood pic prove this is where she got her looks.

The Yussoupov boys, especially Felix, disliked hunting, and it seems to show in the way they're 'holding' their guns!

Well, the Ferrand book has appeared on ebay and its up for grabs for only $400.00!!!! Yes $400.00! If I had the money I would buy it only because I've been searching for it for years. One of the 'previews' it gives is this delightful picture, which I had never seen except the painting. Wish it was better quality but it was the best I could do.

$400?!! Ugh. Too rich for my blood or I’d buy it and share a few of the photos. I guess I should hold on to my copy of one of Ferrand’s other books for dear life. Thank you for posting the picture of Zina, regardless  of the quality. Sorry the book you wanted so badly is still out of reach! ;-(

You know the must horrible thing is that I really, really want that book!!! If I knew I could charge it to my credit card and not have to explain it to my husband, I would do it in a heartbeat. But explaining a $400.00 charge for a book, would never fly with him and he's the history lover!

There's also a picture of Xenia in old age that I've never seen before in the book. Rather off topic but not totally. Anyway, I think this is just one of those books that would have tons of pictures that several people would love to see.

This portrait was painted of Zinaida by Francois Flameng in 1894. She is wearing one of the famous Peregrine pearls, once the property of King Philip II of Spain.

Actually the pearl is the Regente...once part of the French crown jewels and bought by the Youssoupoffs in 1887.

You are correct, and so am I...sort of. She was wearing the Peregrine Pearl, however, I misidentified which pearl was the Peregrine.  It was correctly identified on a German website discussing her jewelry.

Thanks to Brian I was able to get a better quality verison of this picture.

It appears this was taken in 1887 when she would have been pregnant with Felix.

I don't know if these pics are 1887. She was only pregnant for 3 months of that year, Jan-Feb-March and those would have been her fattest months.

Does anybody know what other years she was pregnant with her babies who died? I have never seen it written down.

Feliks was born in march of 1887.   and don't forget, women continued to wear their corsets right up until their "confinement" (or almost, anyway.)

PRINCES YOUSSOUPOFF & COMTES SOUMAROKOFF-ELSTON says 3 infants died "en bas âge" ("in low age" / ie: died in infancy), but as far as i can tell gives no dates.   i don't have the various Yusupov bios handy -- perhaps dates are given in those?

It appears this was taken in 1887 when she would have been pregnant with Felix.

here's monsieur Ferrand's caption for this foto:
"la comtesse Zenaide Sumarokoff-Elston, née princesse Youssoupoff, en 1887, dans l'attente de la naissance de son second fils Félix."

which roughly translates as: "the countess Zenaide Sumarokoff-Elston, born Youssoupoff princess, in 1887, awaiting of the birth of her second son Felix."
