Michael Jayston, no doubt...

He was perfect for the role, he looked allot like Nicky in the movie.
I loved Ian McKellen too but I've always preferred Micheal Jayston.

But I'm still expecting a film version with Dmitry Medvedev. Put a little beard on his face,  dress him up in a uniform, give him a few lines and you've got Nicholas II! :)

Yes, the resemblance between Medvedev and Nicholas II is stunning.

I would say Aleksandr Galibin in Romanovy. Personally my favorite Nicky, but Michael Jayston is pretty close.

I agree on that.Aleksandr Galibin does a better role.I know I said in an old post that Michael Jayston role was better as Tsar Nicholas II, but I like Aleksandr Galibin's portrayal better.I changed my opinion because back then I had only seen some pictures of Romanovy: Ventsenosnaya Semya, and before that I liked Michael Jayston's portrayal of Tsar Nicholas II better. Now that I've seen Romanovy: V.S, I liked Aleksandr Galibin's portrayal better.

I believe too that Michael Jayston is the best actor that has been interpreted Nicholas II. Also Ian Mckellen has made a wonderful work.

Galabin's perfmorance was very intense. at the end of the movie it really made me tear because I forgot that is was a movie.

Don't forget the actor whom played him in the BBC serie "Fall of Eagles" which is actually a very nice serie. I do not know how accurate that portray is, but it is BBC and they are (in my eyes) known to make good quality.. Actors name is Charles Kay

With the physical appearance, I think that Michael Jayston definitely was the best, but Aleksandr Galibin, IMO, gave a much better portrayal of the real Nicholas.

Its got to be our Michael Jayston he plays it great plus they seem to have the regallia and uniforms quite well matched to the period. But I think theres always room for improvement.

Janet Suzman was excellent, I also like Greta Scacchi in "Rasputin, Dark servant of destiny".

For me, Ian McKellan. Loved that movie.

I'm agree, Ian McKellan was great in "Rasputin - Dark servant of destiny".
I also very much appreciated Michael Jayston in "Nicholas and Alexandra".

Is not very easy for me, because I cannot find anyone with an incredible similarity with a member of the Imperial Family.
I have just two ideas:

Arianna Richards...do you remember her?, she was in the cast of "Jurassic Park" (1993)
Maybe she is good for the part as Olga.

And Keira Knightley, maybe for the part as Tatiana.

Just hypothetically.
