Stephen -- track down a copy of The Last Grand Duchess, by Ian Vorres. You'll find a wealth of info about O.A.!

Mie:  it's kind of hard for anyone to answer your question since it  covers such a wide range of information. ;)  If you could narrow it down, I think it might be easier.  And, as Jelisaveta said, there is a lot here on this forum about her.  Do you a a specific question you want answered?

Olga Alexandrovna was born in 1882  the last child of Maria Feodorovna and Tsar Alexander the third. She was their only child to be born when Alexander was Tsar. Olga was a quiet child who liked a more reserved life she liked playing the violon and taking photographs and would prefer the company of pets rather than ladies in waiting.

In the spring of 1901 Olga was engaged to Duke Peter of Oldenburd, Olga was only 18. It was a loveless marrriage and she later decsribed it as 'a empty sham' she said that she felt she'd been tricked into marrying him. There are conflicting reports as to whether he actually loved Olga some saying that he gambled away the money gained from his wedding others saying he was genuinely in love with her (he started letters with things like 'My dearest, sweet Olga.')

In 1903 she met a officer Nikolai Kulikovsky and fell in love with him, 13 years later her first marriage was annulled and she was able to marry him in a quiet ceremony, her mother was present. They had two sons Tihon and Guri, OLga was able to escape from Russia because she had married a commoner and when in captivity she and her husband were given more freedom then the other captives. After this there were many moves, firstly to Caucasus where their second son was born, then to Denmark with the Dowager empress, whhere OLga stayed as a companion to her mother until her mother's death in 1928, Olga stayed in Denmark untill 1948 when they were once again forced to leave becasue of German occupation and finally settled in Canada where Olga stayed for the rest of her life, she  and her husband had a farm there that had to be eventually given up when Olga and her husband became too old to mantain it. Throughout her time in Russia OLga channelled her love of painting into making many beautiful paintings that she could sell to raise money. Her husband died in 1958 (?) and Olga in 1960 whyilst living in a flat above a hairdressers.

Sorry if there are any spelling mistakes, which there probably are and if there's any misinformation once again I'm sorry.

It's a good thing to have all the information gathered together as oppsoed to having lots of random pieces of information scatterred in different threads.

I hope that helps cos it took a long time to type!

The best book for info on Olga Alexandrovna is The Last Grand Duchess, by Ian Vorres. It's all about her. It's not in print anymore, but you might be able to find it at a library. :)

It's probably better then nothing. It will help lead to maybe finding the address. I've been looking a while myself and am having a hard time coming up with it.

A friend of mine (with whom I'm on the phone with right now) says that she lived on Bathurst above a store not far from the Russian Orthodox church.   His mother used to see Olga walking on the street and give her a nod.

His grandfather was in the Tzar's personal guard around the turn of the century.  His name was Michal Grabowski.

He took me to visit Olga's grave a couple of summers ago.

Yes, the photo would help Sarushka.

David, I may be wrong, but the home is supposed to be on the second floor of a street on Gerard street, not Bathurst.

You are probably right although my friend seemed very sure of himself.

The picture may tell all.

cheers,

I'll try to post that photo tomorrow or Monday...

It seems to me that Olga may have lived in two different places in Toronto -- one after she left her little farm in the country, and another right before her death. Maybe that's where the confusion comes from? Or maybe I'm completely imagining that, since I'm away from home and my Romanov books...ack! withdrawl!  ::)

Olga Alexandrovna's last residence before her death was in a flat above a beauty parlor, in a working class district in East Toronto...

Here is what the building looked like:

This was her room and the bed where she died:
