Boutakov family
« on: January 18, 2014, 03:04:05 AM »
I am an Australia geologist with an interest in history. I have just completed a short biographical article on Nicholas Boutakoff (his spellimg), a descendant of the famous Admiral Butakov. Nicholas was born in New York where his father was the Naval Attache. Nicholas became a geologist and worked in Kivu in Africa and Trinidad, before moving to Australia in 1948. He became a key figure  in the exploration for oil and gas on Australia's North west Shelf.
I would be very grateful for any information and links to the family history.

The Boutakov noble family is a family of sailors - Naval officers, Admirals...Probably you've seen a Russian wiki-article on Admiral Grigori Boutakov

http://ru.wikipedia.org/wiki/%D0%91%D1%83%D1%82%D0%B0%D0%BA%D0%BE%D0%B2,_%D0%93%D1%80%D0%B8%D0%B3%D0%BE%D1%80%D0%B8%D0%B9_%D0%98%D0%B2%D0%B0%D0%BD%D0%BE%D0%B2%D0%B8%D1%87

His son Alexander, also Admiral, was murdered in 1917 with his mother.
