Just out of curiousity, has anyone actually been to Alexander Palace or any other Romanov Palace? Just crossed my mind!  :)

Yes, I was there this past June for two days on a cruise. We arranged a tour with a private guide and visited the Alexander as well as the Catherine Palaces.  Saw lots of St Petersburg, Winter Palace, Fortress, and also Peterhof. It was wonderful - I trip I have always dreamed of taking.

I was able to this past july. I was in St Pete for four days. I visited the AP exactly on the anniversary on their murder, july 17. The first floor of the left wing of the AP (N&A's private quarters) is open to the pulic with a small exhibition on the IF. I was also able to visit the Winter Palace, Sts Peter & Paul Cathedral, St Isaac Cathedral and Peterhof.

I then went to Moscow (saw the Kremlin) and from took the Trans-Siberian. I tried to arrange a stop in Ekaterinburg, but was not able :( . Great trip though, I hope to go back some day.

I went to St Petersburh when I was ten years old.  The Alexander Palace was closed to the public at the time, but I did get to see the town of Tsarskoye Selo (Pushkino then), along with the Winter Palace, St. Isaac's Cathedral, and the outside of the house of Piotr I, The Great.

All this took place in the summer of 1991.

Hi:)

I am very lucky to have been there.  I was there in 1998when I was 21. I was with a group from my college and I had a very knowledgble professor  and knew of my love of Romanov History and he got the bus to stop at the gates of the Alexander Palace. The big double gates were closed but there was a small side gate open and a couple of us went through. It was not opened at that point--I was there in the summer of 98 or at least we were told it was not opened but I can not describe what it was like to stand on the grounds and stare at it and know I was standing on history. It saddened and humbled me knowing that when the Royal family left from the palace in 1917, they never came back. I was also fortunate enough to see Peterhof {where my professor waltzed with me in the throne room. Both him and his wife were very nice! They knew the culture of Russia and the language--it was an amazing experience. Not almost 7 years later, I still recall that summer that I was there as one of the best in my life and when my husband and I go to Europe, he knows St. Petersburg is on the list and I can't wait to share these places with him.

It's great that some of you got the chance to go to Russia and see these fantastic places!!!!  I'm so jealous!!!!  Hopefully, one day, I'll have an opportunity to visit.

I was to the AP twice, once in 1999 and once in May of 2004.
